Hi All,

I've recently completed a free online course on leadership from Coursera. Its course curriculum has been designed by IIM-A!

Though I came to know about various aspects of leadership through this course, I still perceive it as a completely different ballgame altogether.
Instead of what management experts and leadership gurus feel—no I'm not saying they are completely wrong—I've just a different way of seeing things.

My perspective on leadership is slightly different.
If you've read this post so far, please bear with me for a minute or two to clarify my viewpoints on leadership.

For your help, I'll provide my perspective in bullet points so that you can understand it better.

(1/?) Sometimes wisdom looks different than we imagine. When we’re frustrated, stuck at home, complaining, making mountains of molehills- we want wisdom to be easy. Instead we must go out and accomplish something, see how big this world is. How hard people work.
Only then we get real wisdom. And don’t worry, this ain’t some Mach tough love bullshit (not completely.) Because real wisdom is as graceful and kind as we imagined it would be. It desires a safe comfortable home for all, kindness of strangers and enjoying life. But it’s earned.
You won’t find that wisdom sitting at home frustrated. When you’re in that mode, you want quick fixes you call wisdom. You want the idea or imagine of wisdom, the picture of a smiling Buddha. But it’s just a picture. You gotta go out and see this world. See the plights of others.

Every minute you overthink, you are spending energy better used somewhere else.

A breakdown on how to control your mind/thoughts:
🧵
1/x: Journaling.

Journaling helps you move intrusive thoughts to paper and ease your mind. It also gives you a concrete perspective on your problems.

#journaling #overthinking #personalgrowth #selfimprovement
Just before bed or when you wake up is the best time. Former helps you reflect on your day and empty your brain, latter gives you a purpose and motivation for the day.

People in my mentions: "Different #SelfHelp books work for different people. That's why there are so many."

Different books work for different people is proof that they don't work because self help books are designed to be universal. 1/5
The entire industry is predicated on the idea that these books are offering universal solutions to universal problems. Like that's the pitch!

Here is the one size fits all guide to
-getting a girlfriend
-being more confident
-getting out of debt
-losing weight. 2/5
#SelfHelp books market themselves on the idea that complex problems can be solved through a series of steps that - if followed correctly - will produce positive results every time.

"Visualize what you want and the law of attraction will bring it to you." 3/5

Mental health problem-solving based on AVOIDING the "Maslow's Hammer" trap

Therapist Thread on #Narcissistic Injury & Narcissistic Rage 🧵: the reactions are disproportionate the the perceived 'slight', which is the injury. They are 'over the top'. For e.g. they want you to lose your entire career because you disagree with them on something.
Narcissistic injury is caused by: 1.challenged confidence. When there excessive needs for admiration your attention, time, energy are not met, they will #rage to protect their ego. 2. Injury to the narcissists #selfesteem often occurs because they don't have a stable sense of
Self. When this happens & the smallest failure is pointed out, they will #RAGE This may look like swearing, snorting, spitting, violence, screaming & melting down or covert and is always directed back at the person or projected back on the 'perceived' accuser.

1. Build self-awareness

Self-awareness is very hard, why?
Because we're constantly on our minds, not in the present moment

You need to be present to be aware of your actions and thoughts.
How?

An excellent way would be practicing mindfulness.
2. Use the killing ANTs technique.

ANTs are automatic negative thoughts.

And how to kill them?
Let's say, you have the thought: I am dumb... You take a deep breath, and think: NO! I am a learner!

1. Track your progress.

You can't manage what you can't track.
Are you building habits? Track them!
Find a way to track your progress.
Write your progress down.
2. Journal.

Journaling is a very effective way to coach yourself.
And a journal can be more patient that a human coach.
Ask yourself questions, write down your thoughts, know your weaknesses... Be self-aware.

Can you really reverse
self hatred?
your insecurities?
the low level of confidence you live your days in?

Can you really reverse your record and history
of “failures”?

but you see this all the time right?

reverse it!
battle this & conquer that Image
i don’t know about you

but that sounds like way too much work for me
think about it... when something is going at full
steam force ahead, along its track

forward motion, barreling ahead
and then to come in and REVERSE that?

yeah...a lotta work

and unnecessary
so, TODAY, is there another way available to us?
an alternative to what everyone else drones
on about?

give me simpler
easier
maybe even funner
certainly lovelier

1/ HKGov didn't provide the necessary information to combat the coronavirus. They're unwilling to request people to wear masks at early stages of the epidemic. Thankfully, HKers have learnt that Gov doesn't provide credible information & was fully aware that #selfhelp is needed. Image
2/ HKers stocked up on mask supplies, hand sanitisers are offered in restaurants & on taxis for free, companies encourage their staff to work from home, civil society has taken initiative to adopt prevention measures to minimise local infections & reduce community outbreaks. Image
3/ Of millions of visitors who have come to HK, how many of them have unknowingly been in close contact with those who have contracted coronavirus? Medical staff went on strike to pressure HKGov to seal off the borders to prevent more people from entering HK but to no avail. Image
