Germany, France, Britain and Russia being wolves who were colonising people territories. Making deals they want you to honour but they don't seem typical of what you will expect so far.
Germany using the Caliph of the Ottoman Empire to declare a "Jihad". Thus employing a strategy of drumming up the "fanaticism" of Islam, to disrupt soilders in the European colonies. Was quite a sly tactic no one has sought to repeat ever since. (sarcasm).
I suppose the failure of the strategy truly nailed dead, the failing idea of the Caliph in the Islamic community. Although the failing economic and political strength of the Ottomans, made manipulation by the British and French easy.
The book more than partly military history, lots of troops movement, equipment etc Gallipoli was one hell of a war theatre. No quater was given. A year stalemate. With the defeats the Ottomans took everywhere. This was what happens when an army is left with no way to go.
Tired of the book. Reached the attempted Arab revolt ( Arab nationalism) with T. E. Lawrence. (Famed Lawrence of Arabia). Not engaging with the material at the level I had hoped. Will sleep on it, but most likely moving to another book tomorrow.
Morale and propaganda are very important tools in how an army conducts its operations. It affects strategy both in real time and long term. What is the narrative and what does it mean to an audience in achieving an action.
The Arabs really threw off conqueror (The Ottomans), revolted and went under another one (English & French). 🤦‍♂️

Russia then had "their revolution" and went about saying shit, denying responsibility and just being a nuisance while trying to find themselves under socialism.
And it was the Russians that pushed the Ottomans into the war, cut off their ties to the British and forced them into an alliance with the Germans. Anyway USA joint Entente forces so that loss was not that significant.
The Armenian and Assyrian Christians genocide while having roots long before the war. It is what haapens when a country becomes polarized and fears the power of a distinct minority to inflict harm due to discrimination & marginalised state.
The majority attacks generates a narrative that holds little logic and with it plus brutal efficiency, eliminates the fear they can control rather than the allied powers they could not. A lot of tactics used here were repeated against the Jews in the 2nd world war.
Suppose the Germans did learn something from the Ottomans.
At the end of the day, "the great war" was a land grab. The allied were ruthless in the land & terms they took from their allies and unrelenting in what they took from their enemies. The Turkish state was all they left them. (Turkish National Moavement).
The Ottoman Empire while on its last leg at the start of the war, did not die easy as predicted by the allied strategies but die it did anyway.. End.
