They said slavery, school segregation and Jim Crow in general were STATE actions requiring LOCAL activism and change too. Doesn’t mean the emancipation proclamation, Brown v. Board and the CRA/VRA weren’t eventually *required* at the federal level to break the cycle with teeth.

As if simply campaigning more in WI is gonna change the facts that 1) the WI GOP engages in widespread race based voter suppression and 2) the overwhelmingly White electorate created by suppression was too susceptible to racist/sexist propaganda to vote D by majority in 2016. 😒
They already hate you and your extra campaigning in WI, in advance.
These rust belt states aren’t turning red b/c White Democrats don’t campaign there enough. Pretending that we can solve the lack of diversity and preponderance of disenfranchisement and discrimination in WI, MI, PA or MN by simply shouting louder at the folk doing it is dumb af.

I’m not advising #Northam on how to handle this situation but in general White Southern men on the left need to speak candidly about the culture of White supremacy and Confederate glorification that pervades the landscape from which they came. For example:
I mean let’s just keep it real, a White Southern man *not* engaging in KKK impersonation, blackface and/or Confederate fanaticism at some point across his lifespan renders him anomalous amongst his peers/in his community. Hell, in many circles these are fucking rights of passage.
Just be honest and admit that this is what passes for heritage and pride for millions of White Southerners to this very day and that it’s even been exported to the rest of the country on the wing’s of the GOP’s Southern Strategy. The issue is the assimilation of White supremacy.
