My friend Eddy has been arrested and jailed in Toronto.

What do I do?

Thread.
I met Eddy the day I landed at Toronto. Very correct guy.

You could immediately tell there was life in him. He wasn’t just laughing because he just got to Canada. No.

It was obvious he had a cheerful personality. The kind of personality that would hurt no one, so to speak.
Eddy my guy, as I fondly call him.

We became friends instantly. To him, I was the saviour sent to save him from being stranded at Toronto Pearson Airport that day.
The friend that promised to pick him never showed up, so I spoke to my family friend on his behalf who agreed to host Eddy for the night. He even dropped us off at our college the next day.

Thing is, we did not need anyone to tell us to live in the same student apartment.
It was clear we complimented each other from the get-go. Also, we believed it wasn’t co-incident that Eddy met me on the arrival day.

Fate they say works in mysterious ways.
We practically did everything together.

Groceries, gym, soccer and learning the Canadian lifestyle as JJCs in Toronto.

Only thing I noticed was that Eddy hardly ate chicken, beef or goat meat. He wouldn’t even use it to cook.

'Maybe he is vegetarian', I once thought to myself.
Also, whenever we ordered Pepperoni Pizzas, Eddy would remove the meats.

He’d say, "these kinds of meat aren't healthy for a man like me".

To me, they were just small talk. So, I paid no attention to them.

I'd just shrug.
Fast forward to 3 years later. We both had finished school, gotten good jobs and were doing well for ourselves.

On the other hand, I got a job on the outskirts of Toronto, so I had to move leaving Eddy behind.
However, before I left the house, the landlord sold it ensuring he transferred tenancy to the new owner. I spent 6 months with the new landlord and can testify he was a jerk.

Hiked the rent, gave strict rules on air condition, no parties allowed etc. Eddy and I disliked him.
On the other hand, Eddy couldn’t leave because of the proximity to his work in the city. And it was relatively cheap as it was still a student apartment.

I recall after a day from work Eddy had messaged me saying he had a heated argument with the landlord.
The man had complained of how the house was always dirty.

Eddy, unable to take it any longer, told the landlord to never talk to him about affairs of the house.

He told him the house was dirty because the Canadians in the house were lazy and the landlord condoned the habit. 😯
Well that passed and for months I never heard anything from Eddy about having issues with the landlord.

To cut the story short, I was at work when Eddy called me.

He said he had been arrested and needed someone to come attest of his good behaviour. Ah! Eddy!
At first, I thought it was a delayed 'April fool'.

"Is this boy trying to scare me or what?"

"Is it my birthday and someone wants to give me a surprise party somewhere?"

"Could it be true and Eddy lost his cool with the Landlord?"
He called again. This time it was an officer on the other end of the line.

“You need to come to the Police station because he said you are the only family he's got here”.

Ah! Kama gbo!
I was able to leave work early because, "emergency emergency" (**in D'banj's voice).

On getting to the station, I looked around for any sight of the landlord.

"Where could he be", I thought.

I finally saw my guy after filling a couple of forms and waiting at the lobby.
"Eddy, wetin happen?", I asked.

Well, I have left the station and I am here thinking to myself; how do I tell his family? How do I tell them Eddy is going to jail?

How do I tell people Edidiong is Calabar and was arrested for killing and eating the neighbours dog in Canada?
