This is an absurd, tin-eared appointment. If Labour are trying to send a message that the complaints process is immune from interference, this says precisely the opposite,

The message it sends is the party don't care about public perception, or independence, or the opinion of the mainstream Jewish community - but they do care about keeping control of the disciplinary process.

I have no direct links to the inner circle but if I were to guess, I would say the key priority is keeping control and avoiding giving a competing faction (there are many) an advantage.

There is also the oddity of Laura being daughter of Andrew Murray, another leadership office staffer (I think) and long term Corbyn friend.
As I said, I have had positive experiences of Laura but there is a strong whiff of nepotism here. They need a truth-telling outsider. /7
