I wonder if it's possible to explain this without getting into a war..At a time when anti-semitism is on the rise in the UK, Europe & US, when Jewish kids don't feel safe on campus, when the Jewish State is singled out for criticism & debates over what is & what isnt AS abound,
And at a time when people say anti-semitic things and tell us why they're not actually anti-semitic, call us racist or Islamophobic or say we are playing the Holocaust card when we try to explain why in fact they are anti-semitic, it's very very hard to watch our history be used
to describe every horrible thing happening in the world. And every debate becomes about Jews or Israel or the Holocaust. Look around at world headlines. See whats there. A people of 14 million out of 7 billion (still fewer than before the Holocaust) are spoken about all the time
The more that is centered around us, the more negative attention we get. The disproportionate attention fuels antisemitism. Horrible things are happening and those horrible things should be dealt with. Centering them around Jews doesn't help the problem, and it harms us.
The US /Mexican border is a massive issue that needs to be dealt with, yet look how the debate is derailed. Ppl are arguing the exact definition of a concentration camp instead of how to end the policies they so abhor. Jews fight Jews over the right to be outraged on either side
And days later, it's still going on. Not the debate about policy of course, the debate about what makes a concentration camp and who is a worse human being if they're more outraged about its use than at family separation & mass detentions as though one cant be disgusted at both.
Those of us who watch world issues such as migration, refugees, border policies, wars half-a-world away being constantly compared to Jewish ones &Jewish history & symbols used in nearly every major political battle, are concerned about the affects of the attention & conversation
Both on the issues being debated, and on the Jewish people. We are already taking hits from both sides, the left and the right center their arguments around Jews or Israel. One thing we do know from our history is that when Jews are on the world's mind, it is never good for us.
