BREAKING: There is reporting that Acting DNI Maguire has agreed to testify publicly before the House Intel Comm next Thurs about the Whistleblower complaint that he refuses to turn over to Congress at the IG's request.

2-And the Inspector General for Intel will testify in a closed-door hearing the same day, about the Whistleblower complaint which they have determined to be credible and a matter of "urgent concern".
**Correction:as of @ an hr ago, Chairman Schiff has said that the Intel IG official will be meeting with the committee behind closed doors TOMORROW. This has taken on some real urgency tonight. Fascinating!

The fact that Acting DNI Maguire is now trying to usurp the IG’s sole authority to determine whether this whistleblower’s complaint is both credible and matter of urgent concern “is a body blow to the intelligence community inspector general’s independence,” says @mcculloughirvin
Maguire essentially gave DOJ the final word on this when he got them involved, per @thejimbaker. “Now that DOJ has opined, that’s the law for the executive branch. As a technical matter, the inspector general has to fall in line.” He appeared to do that today before HPSCI.

Congress & White House have a history of fighting abt what classified material Congress can have on demand. In this case, a fed’l law says that a #whistleblower complaint that the Inspector Gen’l finds “urgent” be sent to Congress Intel Committees. So what is “urgent”?
The federal law defines “urgent” as “A serious or flagrant problem, abuse, violation of law or Executive order,..., or operations of an intelligence activity involving #classified information...” among other things. This appears to be the relevant part of the #whistleblower story
Congress states “Congress as a co-equal branch of Gov’t, is empowered by the Constitution to serve as a check on the executive...it has a ‘need to know’ of allegations of wrongdoing...including allegations of wrongdoing in the Intelligence Community.” bit.ly/32RviOp
