Even if you believe Obama was as awful as Trump in law/norm breaking, and therefore liberals are partisan hypocrites, it seems silly to land on the “both should be allowed to stay in office” principle rather than the “both should be removed from office” one, esp going forward.
“We didn’t remove the last villain, therefore we need to prop up the current one” is just a garbage take, especially since future villains of all stripes are watching and taking notes.
“The person you liked and I wanted out of office also did terrible thing X, so we can’t get rid of the person who is currently doing terrible thing X” is as dumb as it is common.
If walking away from Trump meant handing power to the Dems, I’d get it. But Mike Pence seems like a pretty good conservative POTUS!
I’m not saying this is easy—norms are hard to build when you can’t guarantee future cooperation.

I think there’s a psychology to abandoning something you’ve supported too.

And the collective action problem is a challenge. I don’t envy their situation.
