Process
1. Speaker announces start of formal impeachment proceedings
2. House of Reps has to pass this with a clear majority.
3. It then goes to the Senate. The CJ presides.

4. There is a trial
5. Senate needs to pass the motion with a two thirds majority.
6. Even if a Prez is removed as above, he or she can still run again unless specifically barred.

Given that the Senate has a Republican majority, the chances of them impeaching one of their own is negligible

The best (or worst) scenario, is Trump getting impeached and staying in office.

Hearing the RBI Guv and the #Fed Chair talk over the past 24 hrs two interesting differences come through. Dr. Das is much more confident though reserved in committing to numbers. Jay Powell is more transparent but does not exude confidence in his words. /1

A much better performance from Powell. But his tone and body language clearly showed that he believed that the US economy is doing well and this is just an insurance cut against the Trump Trade War and global weakness

Powell was clear the US will not go to negative rates. He believes that asset purchases and forward guidance have worked in the past and that is the way forward as well.

Then there is a broader category to accuse a president of a crime, although that category is more vague.

A note on #impeachment -

In a court of law, under non-presidential circumstances, impeachment is a tool litigation attorneys use to discredit the opposing side's witnesses at trial. When said witness takes the stand under oath attys. present evidence contrary to what the witness
claims. This weakens the other side's case by discrediting impeached witnesses's testimony. Once a witness has been impeached - by presentment of inconsistent testimony - the judge/jury can no longer use the impeached witnesses's testimony in reaching a verdict.
Simply put, they aren't trustworthy. In the case of Presidential impeachment that broad definition of impeachment applies, but the impeachment tool is used for a very different purpose. Under the Constitution, a sitting President cannot be tried in a court of law for anything.
