Bainville’s “Consequences of the Peace” are a perfect lesson to anyone about classical realist foreign policy.

The Wilsonians marginalized analysis like Bainville from the conceptualization of the post war peace and as such Bainville’s anti republicanism grew still stronger.
His observations on specifics almost all unilaterally came true in the 30’s, which for France was a particularly bad “lost decade” both internally and externally.

Despite his distaste for the Bolsheviks, he could dispassionately look at what they would rationally do.
Bainville became something of a French Spengler in the Interwar, but also was part of the generation that saw the Lothrop Stoddard problem of the weakness that the First World War had exacerbated and saw the dissolving of the colonial empires as something to be avoided.
Some of my Catholic followers might like the French Catholic response of Henri Massis against the revisions of European Order and self definition that he saw in upcoming trends in futurism and Bolshevism.

The French Right. Much of what we’ve seen they’ve seen first
“Such a transformation would destroy the international order, with the former guarantor of world stability reduced to the status of an economically depressed, militarily impotent island incapable of sustaining and defending its own inhabitants”
“this obsession had driven the potentates of international finance capitalism and their political allies to subordinate the security interests of the West to their own narrow economic interests.”
