At a 15% hospitalization rate it is 3.82 million in the hospital.

@TuckerCarlson said it has a 3.4% death rate which would mean 867,000 dead.

Wow.
Cali expect 25.5 million Coronavirus cases in 8 weeks. Based how it was spreading in other countries over an 8 weeks window, Cali already has a few million at this time. If it’s only 5 million cases that’s 750,000 in the hospital at this point. Big story here. @_DANMANGAN
CA wants a US hospital bed. But these hold only about 1,000 beds. Not much help for a state that already has 750,000 in the hospital from CoronaVirus. (750K as a 15% hospital rate out of 5 million cases that they already have if Cali expects 25.5 million cases in 8 weeks.)

1/9 If anyone thinks that mass lockdowns in the US will hold, they have no idea what’s heading their way: Compete outrage on Social Media; pockets of unrest (riots) and a spike of suicides by people who lost their jobs/freedom. At that point, officials will say “ok ok. Go out but
2/ wear gloves and masks; wash your hands more and try avoiding large groups.” How long it will take until the ease up, I don’t know but South Korea did not do anything close to the rapid lockdowns that we are seeing now across the globe. Too many officials are mimicking
3/ each other without thinking what will work best for their country/state/city. I have been tweeting for weeks that Italy melted when they had only 1,000 cases so the lesson should be to first up the hospital/healthcare capacity! But most of the focus is on lockdowns.

THREAD: The curve (amount of new cases) in the US is rising steeply and the death rate (amount of deaths relevant to known cases) is dropping for now. One is a “good” number; the other is a bad but they are both in large part a result of a change in testing levels.
First the numbers:

4.06% March 8 (22 deaths of 541 cases)

As you can see, the number of known cases spiked while the death rate until now is plunging. But no one really knows where we are because the case count (and therefore the curve and death rate) is rising and falling in part based on changes in testing. Looking at total deaths
