As of 11:00pm 23rd Mar., 40 cases of #COVID19 are confirmed in #Nigeria: Lagos 28, FCT 7, Ogun 2, Edo 1, Ekiti 1 and Oyo 1. 2 discharged, 1 death. @NCDCgov Natl. Rapid Response Teams are supporting affected states with response activities especially contact tracing.

We have, unfortunately, recorded our first fatality from #COVID19 in #Nigeria. The case had returned from the UK and had underlying illnesses which were further aggravated by his #COVID19 infection. Our prayers are with his family in this difficult time.

@NigeriaGov is thankful for robust support from multilateral & bilateral partners like @UN_Nigeria who offered prompt support and @china_emb_ng who donated locally-sourced PPEs & medical supplies to help protect healthcare workers on the frontlines of #COVID19 response.

I urge Nigerians to #TakeResponsibility: observe social distance & self-isolate for 14days if you recently travelled abroad. Call @NCDCgov 0800 9700 0010 if you develop #COVID19 symptoms. Access accurate info from covid19.ncdc.gov.ng & practice hand & respiratory hygiene.

While @NigeriaGov is combating #COVID19, this is the part you have to play as Nigerians to reduce the spread of disease & the pressure on the healthcare system. If we are not strong, we must be fast; together, we will end this quicker.
