After 6 months of #lockdown and #lab shutdown I spent a full day 9 am-8 pm in lab doing experiments! New #grad students in #lifesciences: There is always light 💡 and #fluorescent images at the end of the tunnel! Filing a #patent on my #invention from #phd work soon @OrganOnAChip
This is an Organ on a Chip platform that enables mimicking #tissues and #organs in a high throughput manner! The main focus will be towards developing #mucosal organs with tissue resident #immune cells and lining #epithelial cells for #testing #COVID19 treatments #covidvaccines
I recently gave a talk at #oooc2020 organized by @GVNlab at @Columbia. In the talk I demonstrated the #ease of fabrication, #functionality, and #modularity of this platform.
We’re open to #collaborate with interested #researchers! Interested to learn more:
The #scalability at low cost is the biggest focus of our #technology #platform. By eliminating the use of #microfabrication we will acheive this goal along with providing the researchers around the globe 🌎 with the ability to produce the platform for specic #hypothesis testing
Each step in the #manufacturing can be automated. #Materials used in the platform are #commercially available. The platform is higy #modular as the #extra #cellular #matrix and the #cell types used can be specific to the tissue of organ in question. Here I manually add the #ECM
In the video above I am holding a #phone in one hand and adding the tissue matrix with the other. That along with the prior #timelapse movie suffices to show how easy it is to make these #organonchips. With the current dimensions I can put 3 of these on a standard glass slide
A very import characteristic of most organs #fluidflow can be introduced #ondemand. We hope that this will bring a paradigm shift in #microfluidic platform technology and enable widespread use of it by researchers and medical professionals in #thirdworldcountries @TwitterIndia
In terms of #instrumentation the mfg of #chips require a 1. Plotter cutter for cutting the #PDMS sheets into the shape of the channels, 2. An oxyegen/ozone #plasma cleaner to bind the peices permanently, 3. Microfluidic #pumps. These are #affordable and no need for a #cleanroom!
Finally during my #phdlife I used these as #gutoanachip for studying #mucus #hostmicrobe interactions in the #human #gut in real time! Manuscript and a @JoVEJournal paper coming soon.... My friend used to call it “💩 on a uF Chip”!! Still cracks me up every time I make these 😂😝
