ALERT: Twitter blocked our launch video because "abortion advocacy" - the number one issue for women and the issue that this election will hinge on- is banned political speech in twitter promoted posts. #ncpol #abortionrights Image
Elon Musk bought Twitter and declared it a haven for free speech. Since then, hate speech has skyrocketed on the platform. The algorithm throws wild extremism and white supremacy into your feed. But legitimate political campaigns can’t talk about #abortionrights. #ncpol
This policy chills discourse and upholds the status quo, which on July 1st becomes a nonsensical 12 week GOP #abortionban.

I just read through the entire bill. I have many thoughts. For now, I’m walking in to my high risk OB NC clinic knowing my career will entirely change after this is passed.

Follow the thread below as I add my concerns and surprises after reading this bill 🧵
The TL;DR version is:

•12 weeks abortion legal for any reason
•Abortion legal up to 20 wks for rape/incest
•Abortion legal up to 24 weeks for “life limiting diagnoses”
•Abortion legal at any stage for mother’s life.

We should know by now it’s not that simple.
I work in high risk OB. We do not perform abortions, but we do refer. There are ab clinics around that have to stay hidden so their patients aren’t attacked nor bombarded with protestors. This is not an “abortion tolerant” state, yet NC has become a southern “sanctuary city”.

The vast majority of doctors agree: abortion is healthcare.

Prominent state medical organizations have voiced opposition to #LB626, including the Nebraska Medical Assoc, Nebraska Medicine, Neb ACOG, and Nebraska Nurses Assoc.
**Facts below are for #Nebraska** 1/ Doctors are not divided on abortion: 317 healthcare workers
But it's not just Nebraskan doctors who are speaking out against dangerous legislation. Medical organizations across the country are publicly supporting the right to reproductive freedom: 2/

• Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine
• American Society for Reproductive Medicine
• American Medical Association

Hi all!
It's a 10 minute warning on the start of #Democrat Congressional candidate in #PA01, @ashley_ehasz's #townhall on #ReproductiveFreedom and the role of Congress.

You can watch here:

We'll be live tweeting the whole thing!
If you attended the @ashley_ehasz #PA01 #townhall in person, you'd have seen this (#Antichoice #GOP extremist Brian Fitzpatrick) cardboard guy out front.

That's as close as any version of Fitz would get to a town hall. He sprints away from unscripted constituent contact!
In case you want a run down of the legislative goods on #GOP #Antichoice extremist Brian Fitzpatrick of #PA01, here's the rundown...

The TL;DR is that Brian Fitzpatrick has ALWAYS voted AGAINST #AbortionRights.
Always.

He's no moderate, don't drink the Kool-aid on that!

There’s no way to be honest without this being heavy. Tomorrow, Idahoans will have fewer rights than they have today. Here’s what you need to know about the #abortionban that takes effect tomorrow in Idaho 🧵 1/?
Idaho’s ban is one of the strictest in the nation, banning all abortion except to save the life of the pregnant person and in cases of rape and incest (but only where the crime is reported to law enforcement). 2/?
While the law does not criminalize pregnant people themselves, it does impose criminal liability on healthcare providers, as well as those who help someone else obtain an “unlawful abortion.” 3/?

Harris: Dobbs ruling “has already created a health care crisis in America….We are seeing many states attempting to criminalize heath care providers.”

@pre_cap_ Q. Do you believe they pose a threat to us humans?

Objectively, yes. Read further:
@pre_cap_ >Neuralink took this a step further in 2021 by implanting it inside a monkey that then used it to play a mind pong game without any console or physical device.

This is a manifestation of the chief problem. Why? Because on implantation the organism is subject to external control.
@pre_cap_ > Such chips can allow paralyzed patients to get back on their feet and help mentally challenged people.

This is the second problem, which partly reiterates the first concern of mine.

Amidst the recent judgement of US Supreme Court about #AbortionBan, it's interesting to look at what the #Hindu scripture of *Garbha #Upanishad* says regarding embryonic development.

In this #thread, I'll try to compare its observations with modern scientific findings as well
2)
Garbha Upanishad is a very concise Upanishad, which deals with the constitution of body, the embryonic development, and concludes beautifully with guidelines regarding Moksha.
3)
'Through having the union at the ṛta (season), the embryo is formed.
In 7 days, it becomes like a bubble.
In 2 weeks, it becomes like a ball.

In 4 weeks, the ball hardens.
By 2 months (8 weeks), the head is formed.
By 3 months (12 weeks), the feet emerge.'

National production of "cannon fodder" must be protected.
Abortion is a "waste" of resources in times when war consumes them in superabundance.

Women of the wealthy classes will continue to enjoy civil rights in the clinics of "progressive" States.
They will pay a little more, but there is inflation.
And the freedom of choice has always been proportional to the economic possibility of purchasing it.

Rights are also commodities and follow the laws of the market.
Proletarian women will have to be content with "mommies" and knitting needles.
If they die, they cost less to public health.

If they don't produce children they are useless.

The mass shooting in #Buffalo, right wing extremism on guns, and the takeover of the judiciary by leveraging abortion (per last week's thread) are connected. The connection is money. It fuels the complex right-wing network that captured the Court and props up politicians.

The network is complex and confusing by design. It makes the "All the President's Men" mantra of "follow the money" really hard. But here are just a *few* of the threads we do know about, and how they connect to #RoeVWade, #GunViolence, #SCOTUS, and white nationalism.

1/. A year ago, Poland introduced a near-total ban on abortion.

@amnesty warned women & girls would pay high price.

This weekend, unconfirmed reports suggest a woman died in circumstances where her death might have been prevented had she had access to abortion. #AniJednejWięcej Image
2/. This reported death comes just weeks after @amnesty & other organisations including @hrw @AbortionSupport @CIVICUSMonitor @ReproRights @federapl @strajkkobiet warned that the abortion ban was “causing incalculable harm to women & girls in #Poland.”

3/. The situation faced by women in Poland is a stark illustration of the impact an abortion ban can have on the day that the US Supreme Court is set to take a closer look at the Texas abortion ban law

The impact of the vote will be felt far beyond Texas

#AbortionBan #Texas #SanMarino
On Sunday, #SanMarino joined 50+ countries that have improved access to abortion in the past 25 years

It was decriminalised in South Korea (2021), Argentina (2020), Ireland (2019)

But other places - e.g. #Poland & #Texas - are swimming against the tide.
Women & girls pay a high price for restrictions on abortion. They pay with their health, their well-being & even with their lives

Last January, abortion in #Poland - already only available to women in extreme circumstances - was further restricted.

I moved to the U.S. in 2000. Over the past two decades, I have learned that many white Americans have a delusional amount of confidence in their government and its institutions. feministgiant.com/p/if-amy-coney… #Texas #SCOTUS #AbortionBan
They are childishly naive in believing that institutions will save them from state power, which they think will work for rather than ever hurt them. That stubborn belief in U.S. exceptionalism undergirds the refusal to see the fascism that Trump brought.
Black, Indigenous, and people of colour have no such delusions. They do not expect institutions to protect them because they are so often hurt by those institutions.

In condemning the "illegal ruling" by Poland's constitutional court to ban #abortion, @MEugeniaRPalop says such criminalisation is "a violation of #WomensRights."

"It is part of an international, far-right conservative objective: to destroy gender equality."

#StrajkKobiet
"Women have the right to decide over their own bodies - a #HumanRight that cannot be violated," says @nvillumsen.

"In spite of mass street protests, by pushing through the #abortion ban with the help of illegitimate judges, the Polish government has violated EU #RuleOfLaw."
Describing Poland's #abortionban as "illegal & regressive", @deppcppeguengl's Sandra Pereira says it "goes against the dignity of women & their reproductive health rights."

"This ban also hits the most disadvantaged women in our society the hardest."

THREAD: Had a truly depressing conversation about 2020 with my 12 yr old daughter. We were talking about Elizabeth Warren v. Kamala Harris (both of whom we like) and my daughter said "It doesn't matter though, we'll never have a woman president."
I told her that I understood her feeling but that we should remember that HRC won the popular vote and that more women and POC won in 2018 than ever before. I told her trump is historically unpopular.
But she was unconvinced.
She said trump is running and he will cheat.
I replied that I had my fears as well, but that we need to prepare on 2 tracks- One in which we work like hell to elect a democrat (preferably a woman) and the other in which we prepare to help others if trump stays in office (by cheating, winning, or a refusing to leave) .

A thread on the probable effects of reforming #abortion laws, based on research. First, restricting abortion laws will probably reduce abortion but only marginally. Classic example: Romania 1966. Fertility spiked after abortion was made illegal (tinyurl.com/yxehyykk) but Image
the initial fertility spike quickly petered out. Women however massively kept relying on (illegal, unsafe) abortion for birth control, also in the absence of modern contraceptives. Result: spiking maternal death rates.(tinyurl.com/yx8tod4r) that dropped after 1989 when Image
the restrictive abortion law was overturned again. At that time, Romania had the highest maternal death rate in Europe (jstor.org/stable/1966479…). Image
