WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE?

Thread the ongoing #SGBV & rape By @jacobaliet

There are several snakes of all sizes that are harmless to humans. In fact, they can be safely kept as pets and as a control for rodents....
However, there are also several venomous snakes and constrictors that are dangerous to humans.

So, what have humans done to deal with this situation?
Human beings have taught their kids, and the numbnuts among them, that snakes are dangerous and they should stay the hell away from snakes.

This has worked fairly well for humans. The flipside of it is that humans have ended up killing snakes needlessly.

“As Boko Haram continue their relentless cycle of killings, abductions and looting, they are also subjecting women and girls to rape and other sexual violence during their attacks. These atrocities are war crimes” - @livingtruely #SGBV amnesty.org/en/latest/news…
In Feb & March 2021, @amnesty interviewed 22 people in a cluster of villages in northern Borno State that Boko Haram has repeatedly attacked since late 2019. Women & girls frequently targeted with rape & other sexual violence
The targeted communities have been abandoned by the forces that are supposed to protect them, and are struggling to gain any recognition or response to the horrors they’ve suffered. The Nigerian authorities must urgently address this issue.

Thread 1) Are we witnessing a #genocidal campaign by #Eritrea’n forces in the #war in #Tigray #Ethiopia? The atrocities committed and the apparent intent may seem to point in that direction. In this thread I will outline the argument supporting such possible claim. #genocide
2) First, it is important to distinguish between #Eritrean & #Ethiopian forces, although #ENDF is also allegedly responsible for mass atrocities. But in #genocide the intent of the atrocities is also important to consider, which appears more ambiguous in relation to ENDF.
3) It has been documented widespread & systematic #massacers of civilians by #EDF throughout Tigray, targeted as #Tegaru. Many witnesses also claim that Eritrean troops have admitted to orders to kill #Tigrayan men & boys, so they shall not later revenge the atrocities.

2. Let’s flip the narrative that places blame on victims and use the power of language in service of survivors, not perpetrators.

CWULP ADVOCATES SUSTAINED MOMENTUM ON CAMPAIGNS AGAINST RAPE AND SEXUAL VIOLENCE
The Center for Women Underprivileged in Landed Property has called on women groups, organized civil society and all citizens of Nigeria to sustain the momentum on the campaign against rape and SGBV.
In a press release authorized by the Center's Chief Executive Officer, Mariam Ann Ologun, the group observes the wavering momentum of campaigns which are heightened only when media reports on rape are rife, whereas the menace is a continuing trend.
“About two months ago, we began openly expressing our displeasure with the alarming rate of RAPE and SEXUAL VIOLENCE in our society.
Recall that in partnership with other Civil Society Organizations, C.W.U.L.P participated in the march to the Governor’s office... Image

I was in court today to join forces with the Prosecution as a friend of the Court (Amicus Curiae) in the horrifying case against Mr. Jude Ozougwu and Mrs. Ifeoma Ozougwu the couple who tortured  "domestic help" by drilling nail into her head, using electric iron all over her
body and administering pepper in her private parts. They were arraigned at Enugu Magistrate Court today 6th July and have been remanded till 10 August, 2020 at the Nsukka correctional facility.  The Police through OC, Legal did a brilliant job in opposing the bail application,
which was upheld by the Chief Magistrate. #justiceForNneoma! #EndChildLabour # EndVAWG #SGBV

It is our responsibiity as CSOs to sensitize citizens on pathways of SGBV and educate them on their rights when reporting cases. There is need to find a way forward to handle mismanagement of cases by duty bearers.

OK. Here we go. #ICJ Provisional Measures Order #TheGambia v #Myanmar #Rohingya #Genocideconvention Judge Sebutinde - not on the bench.
- Background of application - omitting procedural history etc.
Reference to #Rohingya group that self-identifies as Rohingya; prima facie jurisdiction need not be definitive as to merits of the case - art 36(1) ICJ Statute & Art 9 Genocide Convention - this needs to be satisfied first
Parties to GC - no reservation to art 9 by Myanmar but to art 6 & 8; no reservations of Gambia; “dispute” exists where hold “clearly opposite views” re performance/non-performance of obligations;one party maintains dispute, other denies it. Therefore compromissory clause comes in

I was discussing in a forum the dangers that await the future of our vulnerable population as per harmful cultural practices, and explored how the culture of rape is being wittingly and unwittingly being reinforced in our dying society. #SGBV #EndRapeCulture @PeluOlajengbesi
@PeluOlajengbesi How do we begin to advocate for social protection laws in a society where we follow another's authority, another's experience and then doubt it; this search for authority and its sequel, disillusionment, is a painful process no doubt based on the obvious. @RotimiAkeredolu
@PeluOlajengbesi @RotimiAkeredolu How can e expect our wards to chart the sea of self-knowledge following the leader with the expectation of being secure and finding a safe refuge only to be preyed upon by the very same people we look up to for protection? #SGBV

In the wake of the rape at the court, even after the case file was admitted to have been lost on two occasions, reputable organization have started expressing their condemnation of the obvious reinforcement of the rape culture in our society. Read this:
“We at Gender Mobile have taken cognisance of the decision of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory which sat in Bwari on Busola Dakolo's case against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and we condemn in strong terms the totality of the court’s decision.
The court's refusal to assume jurisdiction on the matter is a monumental concern to the future of our judiciary. Further to this is the award of 1million naira against Busola which is a decision capable of institutionalizing the culture of silence.

You just can imagine the kinds of knives you will find the moment a Cow’s lifeless body hits the ground. If not for desperation, why show concern here when innocent and unarmed students were murdered on your behalf & all you did was incriminate the ones the bullets missed?
I surgically pick the events I attend surgically. I have great respect for Kiki Mordi and Charlie Northcott thus my honoring the invite. I had a long day already but it was worth it all save for the hypocritical interlude by the desperado seeking global recognition at all cost.

Women and the public as a whole must acknowledge that glass ceiling exists.
If ot is not acknowledged first, hardly will it be address it.
• if the awareness is there , then they should make conscious effort to break it.

-More importantly, women must believe in themselves that they can break the #glass
• it is also important that they develop and market their skills in order to enhance their social value.
•Women must be proactive and take opportunities as they come
#SGBV #SDG5 #MyGenderPledge
Finally women must act as support systems for each other, by not keeping silent when they realize a fellow woman is struggling to break the #break the glass.
