Seeing a version of this a lot today - that Biden allegedly called Trump supporters "dregs of society."

I was at the speech. That's not what he said.
He in fact never used the term "Trump supporters," but "forces of intolerance" - specifying that they were a small minority of the country. Referred to those marching in Charlottesville as an example
So seems what is happening here then, strangely, is that outlets on the right and Trump allies are the ones equating "forces of intolerance" with "Trump supporters"

A note in light of Flake’s statement: Kavanaugh nomination can still go to the floor without a majority vote to support him in committee.

Then-Chairman Joe Biden voted no on Clarence Thomas in committee, but nomination still went to floor with committee evenly split 7-7
The committee vote isn’t like a primary, where you have to win the vote to move on. It’s a motion to send it to the floor with a favorable recommendation. Nominees have advanced with negative recommendations
And another thing: this would be a very different conversation if McConnell didn’t extend filibuster rule change to SCOTUS nominations for Gorsuch.
