Authorship ❓❓

Make all figures, edit exitsting code, write new code and contribute to the overall design. Not contributing substantially to the text, but the manuscript isn't finished yet. Is this authorship?

I guess this is a scenario that tends to happen a lot with stats/ R experts and I don't have clear guidelines. It all starts as the "I have a quick question and it's probably super easy for you"... Turns out it is not quick nor easy. 1/n
You get involved, fix stuff, write stuff, usually make figures and edit. The quick thing becomes days or weeks of collaboration and sometimes it all just flows. They offer authorship and we all work together happy 2/n
Other times it is really easy for you but it wasn't for them. You don't feel like you've made a substantial contribution and when they offer authorship you decline. We are all happy 3/n
The bad times is when weeks of collaboration lead to a final product: figures, statistical analysis and even written sections of statistical analysis. But suddenly, the person who asked for help just disappears. 4/n
They keep working on the paper but kind of keep you out of it. You offer help with edits, proofreading, etc, but "they are good now"... and all of a sudden a paper comes out and you don't even make the acknowledgements. 5/n
I don't want to repeat that scenario.Maybe it's just clearer guidelines for everyone. Specially when we publish our source code for analysis and figures. It doesn't seem ok to just ghost the stats/R collaborator and not give them a chance to edit the draft. But what do I know? 6/6
