1) #BorisJohnson will capitulate to #Trump’s selfish, authoritarian, erratic & dangerous foreign politics re: #Iran bc he’s desperate for a post Brexit deal & desperate to prove right the #Tory party’s campaign slogan right, potentially at any cost it seems
2) UK having signed an international agreement re: #Iran nuclear deal is now under pressure to break it & go with a #Trump deal. Last night @BorisJohnson said “let’s go for a Trump deal” completely disrespecting an agreement that several countries took years to accomplish
3) This morning a #USA National Security Advisor made it clear that if UK wants to have a post #Brexit deal with #Trump then it has to align its (anti) #Iran policy with that of US. Notice the pressure: if you want our money then you do as we say! So much the post Brexit freedom!
4) This is #Trump politics & @BorisJohnson will only be too happy to abide. He has no choice. The tone changed ever since @DominicRaab went to US (summoned there?). The aggressive rhetoric suddenly shifted to that of US! No surprise of course UK has always followed instructions
5) This is a dangerous turn. Boris will be so desperate for a deal he’ll do anything #Trump asks or possibly face ridiculous sanctions or unfavourable US deals. Brexit will see UK unchain itself from one entity only to be chained to another! So much for freedom, let alone ethics!

1. Back in 2011 David Cameron was PM & Theresa May Home Sec: UK Gov was actively seeking to topple Gaddafi using scaremongering like “massacre about to happen”. UK along with usual invaders France & US started illegally bombing #Libya : foreign jihadi fighters were needed
2. Salman Abedi ( #Manchester bomber) & his father were members of a Libyan dissident group – the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) – covertly supported by the UK to assassinate Qadafi in 1996. At this time, the LIFG was an affiliate of Osama Bin Laden’s #alqaeda . #Marr

3/ Wrong to think #Soleimani’s assassination can undermine #IRGC capacity/ops/roll back Iran in region. He was extremely popular within the system but others in similar rank- trained alongside him- will likely take over leading Quds force. See @nargesbajoghli’s analysis on this.

First the state of the 'talks'/negotiations.

Despite a lot of (over) excitement in London and some over-reading of the Juncker interview, we are still pretty much where we were. /2
The UK is still posing it's 'slice and dice' backstop.

The 'non-papers' they presented are, per EU sources, basically a max-fac reheat of 2017.

They were dismissed as "magical thinking" then and as @simoncoveney said this morning, they don't work now. /3

So.. back to the backstop: Clearly the official EU line is “We’re not budging. The #Brexit Withdrawal Agreement was signed off by Theresa May and cabinet. End of story.” And there is 100% EU sincerity they would love not to have to discuss the thorny issue ever again. But.. /1
Realpolitik means EU leaders know a new UK PM will mean new #Brexit arguments - and crucially - since the EU hopes fervently to avoid no deal - it means new mathematics in Parliament. EU will watch closely to see if new PM could carry a majority for a #Brexit deal /2
To be clear: I am NOT saying here that EU will abandon the backstop if faced with strong new UK PM. EU wants to protect its single market, protect GFA and protect member state Ireland over departing member UK BUT /3
