Bill Sammon is a messenger without credibility, having admitted that he tried to smear Barack Obama as a socialist during the 2008 election even though he didn't believe that to be the case. mediamatters.org/research/2011/…
As we revealed using leaked Fox emails in 2010 and 2011, Sammon repeatedly used his position at Fox to slant the network's news coverage to the right. mediamatters.org/research/2011/…
It's also fascinating that Fox started adding Martha MacCallum to the litany of Fox "journalists" after Megyn Kelly left. MacCallum is a conservative ideologue on par with the prime-time gang. mediamatters.org/research/2011/…

For years, Fox executives and flaks have told reporters and advertisers alike that the network simply has separate “news” and “opinion” sides like any other news outlet. In response to the DNC's decision not to do a primary debate with Fox, the network returned to that defense.
This argument was never credible, but the network’s reinvention as state TV has rendered it utterly appalling.

Proves Jane Mayer right: Fox is Trump's propaganda outlet, and he's defending it as such.
Trump isn't stanning for Fox because of his deep belief that Chris Wallace is a fair reporter.
The strategic argument for a Fox News debate is that the network's propaganda is so effective that there exists a sizable block of voters who refuse to change the channel to watch a debate on another network... but weak enough that those people might still vote for Democrats.

I'm sure Bret Baier and Chris Wallace are great at parties, but journalists understand that their employer is constantly trying to destroy your credibility and annihilate a shared understanding of facts for its own benefit, right?
The reason Fox employs these people is, in fact, specifically so they can get people to respond to stories like Jane Mayer's with, "but some of the people at Fox are real reporters" rather than "holy crap, this is an ethical shitshow."
You think Fox is giving Shep Smith an eight-figure salary because they really love his work on a show that airs at 3 pm?

1/ Looking at the press, I strongly believe that if @Facebook wants its envisioned end-to-end unification of the #Messenger, #WhatsApp and #Instagram platforms to work, that it needs to dump #Onavo and kick it to the kerb.
2/ That said: I believe there's nuance — if competent people want to sign up for a service, even get paid for it, and it involves them being watched like lab rats and they are informed of this, then fine, go for it, knock yourselves out, enjoy the free service or the income.
3/ Mentally I put this sort of observation/monitoring stuff in much the same space as "Nielsen", and the primary disgust that people exhibit here is because "it's Facebook" — feel free to change my mind?

#FDR promoted the idea that the people of the world, in all nations, shared entitlement to four freedoms: that of the freedom of speech and expression, the freedom of worship, the freedom from want and the freedom from fear.
#FDR is arguably one of the most 'successful' #US Presidents. Some would argue that on the basis of his numerous social policies such as 'the New Deal'. Others, however, would argue that his role during the second world war was more prevalent to his success & everlasting legacy.

Hillary Clinton says it incessantly. She won the popular vote and therefore thinks she should be president. She’s irked that the pesky Electoral College stopped her. She hates those damn fly-over red states. George Soros funds protests for ‘Our Democracy.’
Barack Obama has said it plenty of times, even though he’s supposedly a constitutional scholar. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez has said it and now she’s calling for the removal of the Electoral College. Michael Moore wants socialism outright, but says ‘Our Democracy’ at every turn.

Some thoughts on the debate between Coates and Cornel West, as someone who had the privilege to study with the latter.
I think a lot of folks misunderstand Dr. West’s position because they don’t put themselves in his way of seeing the world. Because for years Dr. West has been very consistent with his critiques of #Obama, #neoliberalism, and #internationalism
West sees the world through an #internationalist matrix of power. That means that, for him, understanding #WhiteSupremacy, for example, isn’t just about understanding individual #racist encounters in the US but understanding *policies* that disenfranchise non-white folk.
