This is perhaps the most corrosive idea in American thought, popularized by Ronald Reagan—the idea of government as enemy.

We are a government of, for, and by the people.

WE are the government.

With this in mind, it's worth asking: who deems it the enemy? and why?
In a truly representational democratic government, government is simply how we choose to organize our shared life together.

There are those who hate the idea of a shared life.

There are those who profit from destroying representation and democracy.

We'd do well to notice who.
And we see this effect rise the more true representation is attacked and destroyed.

Those who hate the idea of government, become the government, the better to destroy it.

They never have to solve a single problem.

Indeed: by failing, they prove their premise.
In the same way, a liar doesn't have to worry about being exposed as a liar—as long as the exposure simply creates an impression of a world full of lies. What a liar ultimately wants isn't to be believed.

It's for people to not believe truth exists.

Every lie helps a liar.
