Isn’t it interesting how we say that male rape and sexual assault stats are low because of underreporting and fear of disclosure but we say that the high stats of female rape and sexual assault is because they lie or exaggerate about sexual violence?
So we are saying we don’t accept the male stats cos they must be higher in reality and we don’t accept the female stats Cos they must be lower in reality.

Despite the trend in stats being the same all over the world for decades. Sexual violence against females is always higher
Like what issue do we have with acknowledging that sexual crimes are much more likely to be committed against women and girls - why must we assume that men and boys are simply underreporting and that’s what’s causing the discrepancy?
Women and girls underreport too - only about 14% ever report their rape or sexual abuse. And even with that stat from BCSEW, we still know that women and girls have 1 in 3 chance of being raped or sexually assaulted in lifespan.
I’m tired of hearing that sexual violence is committed against men and boys at the same rates as women and girls it’s just that ‘male disclosure rates are lower’ - seems a rather unscientific approach to decades of solid data that proves women & girls are more likely to be raped
Every single country in the world has high rates of DV, SV and rape against women and girls. Every single country in the world shows that majority offenders of those crimes are men.

To brush that off with ‘yeah but that’s because male disclosure rates are lower’ is a cop out
For decades, we have had the stat that 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 20 boys will be sexually abused in childhood. And yet academics and practitioners are told these stats are wrong because boys don’t disclose. Well, nor do girls. So it would only push their stats up too if you say that.
It is not at all useful to ignore constant, solid trends in data, reporting and lived experiences to make out that sexual violence is a neutral crime that can equally happen to anyone. It’s not. It’s really not. This is not bringing us forward in practice. It’s misogyny.
It is perfectly acceptable to say that certain crimes are more likely to be committed against males or females and we need that data. Boys and men are much more likely to be stabbed and shot in peer and gang violence for example. No point pretending women and girls are likely.
Women and girls are much more likely to be killed in sex trafficking than men and boys. That’s a fact. No need to pretend it’s neutral.

Men and boys U35 are much more likely to die from suicide. That’s a fact. No need to make it neutral.

Facts mean something.
I’m sick of violence against women and girls being white washed and I’m sick of practitioners being taught that it happens equally to boys and girls. It doesn’t. That doesn’t mean we don’t care or protect boys, but we have to be clear about prevalence and evidence
I worked with a local authority who was teaching social workers that CSA & CSE happens equally to girls and boys. I told them this was incorrect and they told me they knew it was, but they were worried they would be accused of sexism if they said it was happening to girls
And I find it so curious that every group of social workers, police officers, psychologists or therapists I teach are all holding massive caseloads of majority women and girls who have been raped or abused but still believe its as likely to happen to boys and men. Why? How?
