Anyone else following this issue of "pandemic bonds?"

"World Bank Pandemic Bonds which come due this July 2020. This will be in the neighborhood of $500 million which is perhaps a structured derivative time bomb that most people have never heard of."

This appears to be a BIG story. From what I gather, World Bank issued these bonds as a gift to investors, never expecting to be paid out. Now that it's time to actually pay out to fight a pandemic World Bank won't call it pandemic to protect bond holders.

If true, major scandal.
This was also covered by @_whitneywebb recently.
Very under-covered story.

@_whitneywebb PEF has a “unique financing structure [that] combines funding from the bonds issued today with over-the-counter derivatives that transfer pandemic outbreak risk to derivative counterparties.”
@_whitneywebb Dear access journalists, if any of you are still interested in doing some real work for a change, perhaps ask the WHO about this.

Is the @WHO protecting pandemic bondholders?
@_whitneywebb @WHO I repeat. The World Bank issued pandemic bonds to investors with 11% and 7% coupon rates in a world of negative interest rates. They were designed to NEVER pay out. Was a gift to investors.

Now that the time to payout is here, @WHO won't declare a pandemic.

Whoops.
