Extraordinary times.
Italy's draft emergency Coronavirus law to ban entry and exit to whole of Lombardy region - capital Milan- Venice, Padua, Parma & 8 others.
Weddings and funerals banned. Cinemas, gyms, pubs, museums all closed.
Anyone violating law can be arrested and fined.
Establishments that can stay open, such as places of worship, supermarkets, and restaurants, can only do so if they can guarantee a distance of minimum one metre between all visitors. If they cannot they will be closed
Supermarkets etc only allowed to open in the week; all closed on weekends.
Leave for all health workers suspended.

Awareness rose the week of Feb 24.

Feb 27: first diagnosis in NL.
Explainer articles tended to play down the risks:
"the Coronavirus is not very contagious via the air"
"the chance of dying from the new virus is not very high statistically"

How hot is the Irish economy right now?
Weeks ago, a man in Sicily received an agency email seeking drivers in Dublin. He applied and lit a cigarette; while still smoking it, he got a call offering him the job. He was unable to immediately accept because he doesn't speak English.
He's now driving a bus in Dublin. Accommodation is included - just as well as he says, appalled, "they are renting rooms here for €800 a month".
He's yet to have a conversation with an Irish person but he's trying to convince his son to join him while the 'crazy boom' lasts.
He reckons it can't last. "They don't produce anything" "it's all down to funny tax arrangements, and who knows how long Europe will allow it". His plan is to persevere with the 3am starts to save money while it lasts so he can eventually retire somewhere cheaper.

Drew a #dataviz diagram based on available data* about the #Lombardy cluster, which as of EOD 2/22/20 had 54 cases, including 2 in #Milano, & still an unknown Patient 0.

2/7 This cluster has developed quite rapidly in the town of #Lodi, near #Milan, in the #Lombardy region of #Italy.

The story has shifted several times on Patient 0, but somehow Patient 1 - a 38 y/o male in Lodi - contracted the #COVID19 virus.

When Patient 1 had symptoms...
3/7 ...he went to the #ER at the local Codogno #hospital multiple X, but was sent home with only #antibiotics (which don't work on #COVID19italia)

He then infected his pregnant wife & friends.

Of the 1st group of ~6, all were in serious condition.
