1-Dear @narendramodi ji,

Updating some more inputs, we have gleaned from health policy researchers and first responders to the #CoronaCrisis all around the world.

We urge you to share it with your team to inform the forward strategy on #Coronaindia

@PMOIndia @drharshvardhan
2-As we begin April – almost everyone agrees that it will be a hard month as the #CoronaPandemic spreads across the globe.

The epidemic may calm down by July and August, but #ChinaVirus is likely to be seasonal and could return with a vengeance in the fall.

3-The next challenge then becomes - How do we crack the current outbreak, develop a plan to return to normal life, and ensure that the #wuhanvirus never poses the same threat again?

@AmitShah @myogiadityanath @SharmaBpv @shashankupadhy_
4-That will require a system that can detect when the virus is spreading.

The system would have three components -
5-First, a sentinel surveillance system, which collects high-quality data from specific locations and can test a statistically representative sample of patients to detect where and when the virus may be spreading.
@swati_gs @sarkar_swati @ARanganathan72 @anantvijay
6-Such a system could help find small pockets of infection before they multiply into larger outbreaks.

Second, rapid and reliable diagnostic tools.
7-Insurance coverage should be mandatory, and the authorities should give flexible guidance that encourages doctors to test liberally.

For an average man, if you have any signs or symptoms of #ChinaVirus , you get a test right away with no out-of-pocket payment.
8-Third, coronavirus serology tests, which screen blood for the antibodies that confer immunity after exposure to a pathogen.

This is essential for tailoring interventions to stop local spread.

@thevijaymahajan @davidfrawleyved @Sanjay_Dixit @RajivMessage @fgautier26
9-If we know that a large percentage of people have been exposed and developed some immunity, it may allow for less restrictive measures.

These tests can be added to routine blood draws with no additional hassle for the patient.
10-The technology for doing all these things is at hand.

Besides, another question now, is - What can we learn from the US – as far as our own response to #CoronaPandemic is concerned.
11-Sometime this week, we estimate, #America will be able to test more than 100,000 patients.

That number will keep growing.

Based on recent data, some 750,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted in the U.S., with about 125,000 people testing positive.
12-They are thinking of repurposing this to routine surveillance once the epidemic has abated.

Some testing companies, such as #Abbott and #Cepheid, control their entire supply chain, but most don’t.
13-Their Government is mulling over giving preferential reimbursement—i.e., pay more—for important testing products that are produced in the #USA

And reagents, swabs and other testing products all are being added to the national strategic stockpile.
14-Once we break the current epidemic in #India, and learn where #coronavirus is dormant, #Indians can gradually leave their homes, return to work, attend school and congregate.
15-We need to create an efficient data collection system that allows cases to be identified and tracked in real time without overburdening providers with data entry and case reports

@vivekagnihotri @pGurus1 @Swamy39 @SreeIyer1 @sankrant @amitmalviya @sunandavashisht @MRVChennai
16-Innovation needs to focus on expanding screening capacity.

On Friday the #FDA authorized a test by Abbott Labs that can tell if someone is infected with #ChinaVirus in as little as five minutes.

@vakibs @mvmeet @maidros78 @majorgauravarya @MajorPoonia @rawnksood
17-The test is run on the same small, portable platform Abbott uses in its tests for flu and strep throat.

This new device should make point-of-care testing easy and common starting next week - at least in the United States.
