In my work I offer some reasons why we hang on to micro-level interventions even when the evidence is clear that they exert only modest, transient effects.

I agree with Dr. Miller that the utility of ethicists in the #RoomWhereItHappens for public health emergency policy response ought not be assumed. That said, I strongly believe that an appropriately-trained ethicist can be helpful, at least in the following ways:

(1) Trained ethicists often have facilitation skills, specifically as regards to complex normative and ethical problems unfolding in urgent or emergent contexts. Applied ethicists in practice almost never dictate or pronounce conclusion -- if they are practicing well IMO.

I should know, since I have been scraping the Internet for a decade trying to find them. One of the first-day axioms in #PHEthx is that in important ways it is simply different from health care/clinical ethics. Good teaching cases must reflect these differences.

Just a friendly reminder @moderna_tx told the @SECGov that the @US_FDA defines #mRNA as gene therapy. And called it an unprecedented new category of #medicines tho they really want that #vaccine classification anyways for liability protections & fear the public wouldn’t take it.

As of 20.01.22 Anyone over 12 needs to pay €8(12-18)/€15(over18) for a government approved antigen test in a pharmacy in order to get their hair cut or frequent a beautician’s. A pcr costs minimum €60- & gives you a pass for 72h, an antigen test buys you ‘freedom’ for 48h.
#ThisIsItaly All unvaccinated/Non-Recovered workers under 50 must buy their right to work by either presenting an antigen test every 48h or a pcr every 72h. There is now obligatory vaccination for all people over 50.All health workers, police forces & teachers must be vaccinated.

The article is well-written, but it leaves out an enormous amount of context. Most importantly, ADA and disability law violations are de rigeur. They are common, frequent, every day occurrences. Ask people w/ mobility impairments how airlines handle their wheelchairs.

While you have an option of opt-out, it will put potential vaccinees in a tough situation. You have to decide for yourselves based on publicly available (or the lack fo it) information-- on safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy on both vaccines.
If you are allotted Covishield, you will follow the current protocol as described and practiced in the dry runs.

People are right to be upset w/Stanford: see @CarolineYLChen excellent piece . But it’s not “algorithms”, it’s inputs. If your inputs are too simplistic (age-only, ignore exposure or medical risk), you get bad outcomes, e.g. no residents, senior WFH 1st 2/7
Same w/ Murdoch: . People are right to be upset. But age-only priority like the UK (start w/85+ or 90+), ends up prioritizing Murdoch over a 60 yo bus driver. Who lives to 90? We know the answer: more often, wealthier people. Need to consider other risk 3/7
