In my 1st tweetorial, I’m happy to share our preprint—my first, first author manuscript! We used @10xGenomics single-nucleus RNA-seq in a mouse model of electroconvulsive seizures (ECS) to assess activity-regulated gene expression in hippocampal #neurons. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Activity-regulated gene expression patterns in the #hippocampus regulate #plasticity, #learning, and #memory, and are linked to risk and treatment response for neuropsychiatric disorders. However, the cell type-specificity of these patterns is still not well characterized.
We sequenced a bunch of neuronal nuclei (15,990) from mouse hippocampus and used graph-based clustering and a priori marker genes to annotate these nuclei across all major hippocampal subregions and neuron types in both of our experimental conditions (Sham and ECS).

Disclaimer: I am definitely not a pro but I have been through quite a journey during my first year teaching and these are the things that turned it around for me and allowed me to end the year with a better work life balance and strong love for the profession
1. OBSERVE -as many different teachers as you can, as often as you can. Just because you aren’t a trainee anymore doesn’t mean you can’t set observations up yourself - this was hands down what had the most positive impact on my teaching this year and helped with specific problems

The fossil fuel industry has infiltrated all steps of democratic will formation & decision making in order to protect business as usual, locking us in on the worst case climate scenario.

I've heard this illusion many times that the public as an entity is somewhat isolated from interventions to protect fossil interests. And that it therefore will come around the corner at some point. This is often coupled with misanthropic cliches about humans being essentially
dumb, greedy and ultimately deserving catastrophe as we haven't stopped it up until this point. So it might be helpful to be very clear about all the ways the fossil fuel industry has tried to control "the public" via the political discourse, lawmaking procedures and courts.

THREAD on DUTIES: I do approx. 13 duties per week. Mostly in the canteen. With a reasonable AHT teaching timetable on top, I have a vested interest in not using my voice too much and certainly not shouting. So here’s a thread with some tips for any less seasoned duty staff /#ECT

Spain is the most sued country under the Energy Charter Treaty: it accumulates 50 lawsuits and a claimed amount of more than 10 billion euros. The solution is very simple: to avoid this waste of public money, the exit from the Treaty must be initiated.
In a claim under the #EnergyCharterTreaty it can never be said that "the State has won": the defence costs alone amount to millions of euros. As in the case of Abengoa Spain, Spain will have to pay 6.7 million taxpayers money only in process costs.

Supporting novice teachers to build a mental model of teaching is important but hard to do. Having a visual model to provide coherence across their training helps them make connections.
I developed this model which blends the 5 core areas of the CCF/ECF with the 'Making Every Lesson Count' framework.
1) I just watched the documentary @cureddoc, about the past pathologization of #homosexuality by @APApsychiatric, its harmful stigmatization and treatments such as #ECT and #lobotomy, and the efforts that led to overturning the classification of being #gay as a #mentaldisorder.
2) @cureddoc is very good, but there is at least one false and misleading statement. At 1:12:11, near the end, text states, “#ECT continues as a treatment for severe forms of depression – with the consent of patients and effective results for many people.” Forced ECT still real.
3) @cureddoc #ECT is still often done without consent of the patient, many patients who did sign for it have later said they did not feel they were given proper informed consent, and many patients report long-term cognitive impairment, as well psychological trauma. #psychiatry
