In a survey conducted last fall, the Chicago Council on Public Affairs found that 72% of Americans thought trade is good for the U.S. economy, 78% thought it benefits consumers like themselves, and 57% thought it helps create jobs in the United States
Even the core #MAGA crowd thinks #FreeTrade is a good idea: 62% of Rs said it was good for the economy, 68% said it benefitted consumers, and nearly half (48%) saw it as good for job creation
And the kicker: Only 28% of Americans agree with Mr. Trump’s statement that a trade war would be good for the United States; a full 64% reject it, including 71% of Independents and 50% of non-college whites.
