Oh I think they understand just fine. The EU has put its doctrines before the welfare of its own citizens; they are not concerned about a state that has sinned against the universe, in their view, by trying to leave. Therein is the hope.
David Davis resignation letter: "The proposed policies [by PM May toward the #EU] will … make the supposed control by Parliament illusory rather than real. … I am also unpersuaded that our negotiating approach will not just lead to further demands for concessions." Quite right.
PM May's proposal thwarted #Brexit in everything except name, but seemed enough to out-point the supposed-Brexiteers in the Cabinet and unite the government. And Brussels would *still* have demanded concessions on this surrender instrument. That plan looks less secure now.
Boris Johnson has resigned. Now things get interesting.
