Some important facts when reporting on #TurkishArmy operations in #Syria:
•The #YPG has ethnically cleansed several cities of their Arab inhabitants as documented by @amnesty & others
•ISIS has carried out many terroris attacks inside #Turkey including 2016 Airport, 2017 NYE

•As with every war, each side pushes its own propaganda. The #PYD/#YPG have previously used images that were proven to be either doctored or from other countries
•#Turkey says main aim is to create safe zone &go after “terrorists” but #OperationPeaceSpring has other motives too

•These include economic benefits from construction projects + others in post-conflict #Syria
•The issue of refugees has become a toxic electioneering one domestically in #Turkey. There’s a belief that by reducing their number Gov popularity will increase.

•Western countries condemning #Turkey & imposing sanctions are beyond hypocritical. They continue to arm #Saudi #Israel & other militaries that kill and oppress civilians
•The #ArabLeague aside from being irrelevant is also guilty of this.

•They failed to prevent #Iran & #Russia from interfering in #Syria but now are up in arms over #Turkey
•The idea that the #US & others can refer you “the Kurds” as a homogeneous entity is also laughable. There’s a wide spectrum politically & geographically speaking

•The #KRG in northern #Iraq hasn’t got a good record in welcoming #Kurds fleeing conflicts. #Turkey on the other hand hosted more than 100,000 during the #Konami operation in 2014
•The greatest benefactor from the emergence of #ISIS has been the Assad regime & Russia

•the existence of #ISIS allowed them to change the narrative in #Syria from one of revolution to that of “countering terrorism”

These are just some observations on #OperationPeaceSpring & #TurkishArmy operations inside Syria which are unfortunately missing in some news reports

A few more additions to this thread:
•The fact that #Turkey engaged with & trusts #Russia & #Iran to reach any solution to the war in #Syria is hugely problematic. These are countries that have massacred thousands of Syrians & saves #Assad when he was about to be toppled in 2014

•Every side has its angle, naive to say otherwise That doesn’t mean there’s moral equilibrium between each side.
•#YPG/#PYD have used child soldiers, cleansed towns of their Arab inhabitants &killed civilians.
•US intervention in region has never been for benefit of its people
