New! Watch! 🔥🔥🔥(Did I do that right, kids?)
Excited for 2nd episode of @MyRadarWX climate series, after the #Paradise fires. What does recovery look like in an age of #climatechange? Rebuild or retreat? Watch (and read).

1/
MyRadar is the world's most popular weather app; the CEO @agreen (he also brought you Flightwise) is committed to educating people about how a changing climate will impact how we live and where we live. He let me, @milesobrien and his team tell this homeland security story. 2/
We've been amazed at the response to our first episode on Bahamas. You can watch it on youtube and the myradar app (better idea) and we hope we can top 2 million views this time. 3/
For me, it was an opportunity to tell a longer story (more than 90 seconds on air!) that is too often ignored. When confronted with the question at the #DemocraticDebate about whether some communities shouldn't just retreat, most of the candidates didn't address squarely. 4/
The idea that we must abandon a locality (called "managed retreat") is emotional, some see it as defeatist, but it is now necessary. Paradise isn't alone, but with only 3K citizens returning (out of 25K), it is a pressing question there. 5/
We talk to community leaders, scholars and survivors about how they think about Paradise; we tell the history of mega fires and the experiment in WUI (wildland urban initiative) when people thought they could live with the forest. The film team makes this stunning to watch. 6/
The experiment of "taming" nature to live with it may be over. Yes, we can be for mitigation. But for some communities, we have to ask: is it too late?
Watch, download the app, tell your friends about the series. 20 mins of your time.

We'll be in Norfolk, VA next in 2020. 7/7
