These tendencies have distorted every aspect of our politics. National conversations are dominated by current trivia and random impulses, rather than by the deep issues that really matter. Noisy buffoons are elevated. The voices of wealth and power are amplified.
This is why the cameras are all clustered in Davos, literally the last place in which effective change will happen or honest self-reflection will occur. It's pure theatre, directed by some of the richest people on Earth. And the media loves it.
The character of the media goes a long way towards explaining why we are stuck as existential crises converge on us, paralysed like in one of those dreams in which your legs won't move as the horror approaches.
The media, largely owned by billionaires, acting for billionaires, behaving like the worst of the billionaires, is the world's big problem, from which many others arise.
