#American #exceptionalism?

It was never my phrase.

It is #brash. #Gauche. #Brinkmanship. #Oneupmanship.

But for every other country on earth, the #UnitedStates is the absolute worst country on earth.

We cherish #liberty but not enough to hang politicians for their every #encroachment on it.

(Remember, according to #ThomasJefferson (and all the natural rights philosophers who preceded him), the purpose of the government is to #securetheseliberties among men.)

We value #prosperity but not enough to hang politicians who attach themselves to the #fruitsofourlabors with #exactions and #taxes that are nothing more than #transferpayments to others done with aid of government leeches.

We appreciate #security but not enough to hang politicians that burden and restrict the right of the People #tokeepandbeararms.

We appreciate #security but insist that individuals live with a false premise, that a man's best security is an armed police and an armed army, rather than an armed man, an armed family, and an armed community.

Still, for all its faults, #Canadians (and others) travel here for #medicalcare even when they have health care in Canada.

Still, for all its faults, #Salvadorenos, #Guatemaltecas, #Mexicans, #Cubans, #Haitians, #Somalis, #Iraqis, #Afghans, #Chinese, #Indians, #Pakistanis, travel here to #livefree, #findwork, and #haveopportunities too remote in their homelands.

Still, for all its faults, this is the nation that saved #Europe from #German #hegemony in #WWI, and from the #NaziReich in #WWII.

Still, for all its faults, this is the nation that #spilled the #blood of 500,000 #citizens to resolve the #moralquandary of #slavery.

Still, this is the nation that provides the #last, #best, #fertile #groundforliberty.

So, yeah, I loathe the fact of American exceptionalism ... we are like the #uglyduckling, a #swanofliberty, of #prosperity, of #decency.
