The deployment followed the Indo-Sri Lankan Accord between India and Sri Lanka of 1987 which was intended to end the #SriLankan Civil War between militant Sri Lankan #Tamil nationalists, principally the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (#LTTE), and the Sri Lankan military.

MOVING TO BALI FOR A #SRILANKAN 🏝! So here is a 🧵 on how you can potentially move to Bali, live here, and earn a source of foreign revenue while in #Bali. Keep in mind Indonesia is not a straightforward option for long-term migration, but an option for short/medium term stays.
So, I would like to reiterate that Indonesia is NOT a long-term migration option. As far as I know, there is no direct route for a PR, unless an employer sponsors you for a job. But, it is a great way to get away from the #EconomicCrisisLK at least in the short /medium term.
Right, so diving into it, Indonesia offers a visa called a B211A visa that allows you to stay in the country for up to 180 days. The visa is initially given for 60 days, with 4x extensions of 30 days each. You can legally stay here, rent apartments/villas, and open a bank AC.

As we come up to UN #victimsoftorture day (26 June) let's recall the #srilanka security forces' 'White Vans' (synonymous with abduction & #torture - & sometimes disappearance) date back to the JVP era. They don't really stop & start, depending on the government in power - alas.
In 1989 an .@amnesty report said "in a typical case, plainclothes armed men arrived at the victims' home at night, travelling in Pajero keeps or Hiace vans...usually they gave no explanation for taking away the victim..."

Okay, after the photo of the Zahrân Hâshim with a weapon in front of the well-known flag used among others by #IS and the intelligence memo mentioning him and the group blamed by the #SriLankan gov. for the attacks leaked, I think it rather likely that he was involved.
The guy has been described as pro-#IS, so the remaining question is whether this is directed or inspired. Considering that the information mentioned in the memo seems to have come from India, I believe in an Indian connection to all this.
The first group of Indians who joined #IS belonged to Ansâr al-Tawhîd fî Bilâd al-Hind. Their leader Sultân Amrâr came from the southern Indian state of Karnataka which is bordering Tamil Nadu and has a Tamil minority. His brother Muhammad is likely still around somewhere.
