My views on what govts could do in regard to K-12 ed during #COVID19 pandemic:
We value, support, trust & respect students, educators & edu workers;
We will do everything we can to encourage & support students’ well-being, equity & learning, including providing $ & resources; 1/

We ask school boards, schools, educators & edu workers to use their profession judgment to work in collaboration with each & every student & their families to support students’ learning as best we can;
We will make sure there are specific supports for most vulnerable students 2/

All students will graduate on time & arrangements will be agreed for their high school qualifications/grades to be awarded differently & formally recognized for post-school destinations;
Formal accountability measures, standardized testing, & summative grading are suspended;

We will listen to the people who work in education, students, parents & guardians throughout this ongoing process & adapt plans as needed based on educational advice;
We will act in partnership & with care, compassion & kindness;
Supporting every student is the core purpose; /4

We are in midst of a frightening pandemic, we recognize & understand children & adults are dealing with a lot including physical, mental & emotional health;
We’ll do the best we can together, it won’t be perfect nor should it be;

We’re all human, breathe & prioritize taking care of yourselves & each other;
Do what you can to engage students in learning but, be assured, when we get through this, we will invest in ensuring students are fully supported back in school to continue formal learning;

What would you add/change? #OntEd

My personal/professional view in a nutshell:
Let edu profession lead, connect with students & families, teach & provide supports;
Look after students’ safety & well-being (physical, mental, emotional) as 1st priorities, then provide engaging learning opportunities, inc play;

Recognize & understand children live in a diversity of home/care conditions;
Parents/guardians are dealing with huge amount currently - most are doing very best they can to love, care & provide learning for their children;
Some children & families will need specific supports.
