We mustn’t allow President Trump to tarnish the sanctity of an office exclusively occupied by thieves and bigots and craven sex pests and backroom profiteers and genocidal maniacs and slave-owners and Jesus freaks and bloodthirsty war criminals for the past 200 some odd years.
Liberals need to stop pretending that the dignity of the Presidency is somehow under siege. The office itself is a corrupt antidemocratic safeguard created from the pipe dream of slave owning aristocrats who didn’t want to have to pay for the land they were stealing.
The class dynamics of capitalism are not new inventions of the modern day (see mercantilism and feudalism). The “American experiment” was to see how purely a group of ultra-rich white supremacists could crystallize into law and doctrine their privatizing a continent’s resources.
FDR herded Japanese kids into prison camps. Truman nuked innocent people. Kennedy ordered boots on the ground in Vietnam. LBJ firebombed Cambodia. Nixon’s FBI killed Fred Hampton. Ford pardoned him. Reagan stopped taxing the rich. Clinton passed NAFTA. Both Bushes killed Iraq.
