The daily #Coronavirus megathread for Tuesday starts early, from Manchester airport.
Because of the early start I missed a few countries from yesterday's thread, first I'll update these #Covid19 totals. Tweets during the day may be delayed due to travel & connectivity issues
1/3 #GreekIslands - yesterday cases nudged lower again in #Greece and there were some very promising data from the islands too.
#Crete cut new cases of #Covid19 by 43% while for #Corfu it was a 48% fall and #Rhodes saw a reduction of 38%.
#Turkey was up very slightly when #Covid19 data were published yesterday evening.
19,557 new cases, a rise of almost 4%
Disappointingly the positive test rate is back to 6.9%
245 Covid deaths reported.
#France 3,795 new #Covid19 cases, down 27%.
98 further deaths.
#Germany though is still climbing. Up 21% yesterday with 6,276 new infections. 24 deaths
Could hit 14,000 cases on Wednesday, but looks likely to "top-out" around 15,000
However remember #GER does very little testing
#Spain's doing very well right now.
Just 15,489 new #Covid19 cases registered over the weekend, a fall of more than 8k compared to the previous Monday's figures.
146 further deaths. #ESP govt 7 day rates/100k for the islands are:
#Norway suffers another blow with a 49% rise in its #Covid19 caseload this morning
1,349 inf3ections diagnosed in the last 24 hours, taking the 7 day rate to 228 AD/M, 26 times higher than amber listed Poland #JustSaying
#NOR may break its record tomorrow, if not, certainly Weds
#USA is at its highest #Covid19 7 day infection rate since 29 January.
Cases keep sneaking up a little, but patients hospitalised with the disease seems to have plateaued at almost exactly 100,000
Meanwhile the EU advises against non-essential travel to the States.
I have to say a suspiciously quick turnaround in the #Covid19 situation on #StLucia
The Caribbean island, under threat of red listing or an FCDO "ban" reports just 44 new cases today compared with 189 a week ago. Relieved travellers won't care!
No further deaths on St Lucia
That's a drop of 140 compared to the week before.
The daily numbers continue to chop and change. The trend remains slightly up but looking much better now.
Six more deaths on #JAM
Not a record, but things not getting better in either of the two worrisome states. #NSW records 1,164 new infections and #Victoria 76 #ACT has 13 cases
There is an uptick in #Covid19 on the island, but still looking OK for now. I will keep an eye on it, but with a larger population shouldn't be quite as dramatic changes.
Good to read @SimonCalder highlighting the shocking experience I reported on here yesterday.
#Czechia reports 245 new cases of #Covid19 and 2 deaths today. That's up 39 from last Tuesday, 19%.
#Ukraine is well up again, but last week was a holiday so to be expected. 1,356 new infections vs 692 a week ago.
#Hungary up another 34% today. Low numbers always there on a Tuesday but still the trend is indicated.
110 #Covid19 cases, up from 82. One death.
#Lithuania up 8% with 646 new infections and 6 dead.
#Estonia down a shade 358 cases (-17) and 1 death.
I've managed to get back online!
I'll start with the #UK data.
32,181 new cases of #Covid19 but difficult tell exactly what it means. It's up 1,343 on last Tuesday but the figure includes two days of data from Wales.
But with yesterday being a bank holiday, testing was down 13%
Here are the new #Covid19 infections by country for the #UK, but again with yesterday being a bank holiday numbers today should be down 10-12%
#Covid19 deaths today in the #UK well down, but only because of the holiday.
Tuesday is normally the worst day of the week - last week 174 people reported dead, today just 50.
Tomorrow and Thursday likely to be very high, possible we will see 200 for first time since 9 March.
Last Tuesday saw an all time record number of #Covid19 cases in #Greece. Today new infections fall by nearly 1,000.
3,628 more cases diagnosed.
Deaths down to 22m but the number of patients seriously ill and intubated has risen from 326 a week ago to 344 today.
#Ireland continues its much better data of late with a 12% drop in new infections.
1,382 positive tests in the last 24 hours. But 355 #Covid19 patients are now in hospital, with 54 in ICU.
A near 10% drop in #Italy too, offsetting fears of another swift rise.
5,498 new cases of #Covid19 and 47 deaths.
To the north, very similar figures in #Switzerland, also down almost 10%.
2,702 new cases and 11 more people have died of Covid
#Denmark suffers 4 #Covid19 deaths today - there hasn't been more than 4 in a day since April.
843 new cases, down 37% on last Tuesday.
Over the bridge, #Sweden is heading up again quite strongly. 3,413 new infections over the weekend. That's 23% more than a week ago. 7 deaths
An unexpected rise for #Turkey this evening with the positive test rate also up quite significantly to 7.4%
21,893 new #Covid19 cases detected, up 14%
Also 252 more people died with Covid in #TUR
Another fall of well over 3000 for #Spain today which gets new cases of #Covid19 down to 7,767.
194 more deaths
The 7 day rate in #Canaries is down to 60/100,000 while in #Balearics it's now 103
19,425 new #Covid19 cases diagnosed in #France in the last 24 hours.
That's a fall of over 5k, or 22%
136 deaths in #FRA
#Cyprus sees new infections fall by 20%
267 positive tests for #Covid19 in the last 24 hours.
The health situation continues to improve too.
There are now only 138 Covid patients in hospital with 54 described as in a serious condition.
Just two more deaths.
#Portugal had 1,908 new cases of #Covid19 today and 13 deaths
Infections then down more than 15%
All regions falling. Data for the most visited areas: #Lisbon 619 (-66) #Algarve 141 (-20) #Azores 9 (-4) #Madeira 21 (-11)
I'm not surprised that #Russia fakes its data
What I am astonished by is that the Kremlin is still reporting almost exactly 800 deaths every single day. All this while still maintaining #Covid19 cases are slowly falling.
795 Covid deaths today, 17,813 new infections.
#Spain's weekly report on #Coronavirus variants continues to show that #Beta is seemingly on its way to being eradicated. Not a single case in #Balearics or #Canaries since the last update.
However look at the rise of "other" variants.
The #Spain data above come hot on the heels of #SouthAfrica investigating a new mutant strain of #Coronavirus
C.1.2 is its current name - and it could be less lethal, not worse, but it's been discovered in a few countries now.
Thursday's #Coronavirus megathread starts here with the best #Covid19 global analysis and round up available on Twitter.
First a little quiz, answer in the next Tweet:
Do you know which country has had the most recorded cases of Covid19 as a percentage of population?
So I hope there was no cheating... I'll leave some blank lines here too in case some later viewers don't want the answer just yet...

So the nation with more #Covid19 cases than any other based on population is highly vaccinated #Seychelles at more than 20% infected.
Today I spent quite a long time being filmed/interviewed by @bbcturkce about #Covid19 and #Turkey. Not sure how much they will use, let's see.
Coincidentally the cameraman Efe, just happened to be in Kyiv as one of those using Ukraine for a 10 day stop off to avoid hotel prison!
Now more very concerning news from #Bahrain, one of the most vaccinated territories on the planet.
#Covid19 cases are still rising there - more worrying is the real increase in deaths too.
Second highest daily number of new cases & deaths in the latest update
graph @Worldometers
🚦review imminent, I'm getting a lot of questions.
I reply to everyone but it's so time consuming
I'm now working on 7-day rates for EVERY Greek island.
I'll continue to post free advice and data, so nothing will be hidden from anyone, so please don't be angry or upset! And yes you can still ask questions!
So the big news in UK today is that the single shot Jansen (J&J) #Covid19 vaccine has been approved
1/9 Which countries are the worst liars when it comes to #Covid19 deaths (and which are the most honest)?
There's no definitive way of stating, but analysis of excess deaths is a guide to the real extent of #Coronavirus
I've worked out official deaths as a % of excess deaths..
2/9 This is the best way to expose clear cheating.
But it's not perfect
Many nations suspected of underplaying #Covid19 deaths don't declare mortality data, notably India, Indonesia and Turkey, though for the latter two stats are available for the biggest cities Jakarta/Istanbul
3/9 Data are the latest available for each country but e.g. while Peru, Spain, UK are right up to date, others are >6 months old.
Some nations have negative excess deaths, e.g. Taiwan, New Zealand, Thailand, Australia, Japan, Iceland, Norway.
Having lockdowns, mask wearing etc
