Thursday's #Coronavirus megathread starts here with the best #Covid19 global analysis and round up available on Twitter.
First a little quiz, answer in the next Tweet:
Do you know which country has had the most recorded cases of Covid19 as a percentage of population?
So I hope there was no cheating... I'll leave some blank lines here too in case some later viewers don't want the answer just yet...

So the nation with more #Covid19 cases than any other based on population is highly vaccinated #Seychelles at more than 20% infected.
Today I spent quite a long time being filmed/interviewed by @bbcturkce about #Covid19 and #Turkey. Not sure how much they will use, let's see.
Coincidentally the cameraman Efe, just happened to be in Kyiv as one of those using Ukraine for a 10 day stop off to avoid hotel prison!
Today's data to catch up on.
It seems a bit late to post ALL the daily Greek Island cases from y'day, but if anyone wants specific details, reply!
The most popular islands fared well: #Crete 145 (-105) #Corfu 40 (-13) #Kefalonia 5 (-11) #Kos 11 (-4) #Rhodes 54 (-39) #Zante 8 (-6)
#USA registered over 184,000 new cases of #Covid19 overnight. #Texas led the way with over 24,000 infections, the highest daily number in the biggest state since early January. TX also reported 325 Covid deaths.
The U.S. 7 day infection rate is now 346/100k or 495 AD/M
In case you missed it earlier, another all time #Covid19 record for #Australia overnight.
1,466 new cases of which 1,288 were again in #NewSouthWales where there were also 7 Covid deaths. #Victoria sees a leap too, with 176 new cases
#NewZeland announced 52 new #Covid19 cases there today. Looks like they may be able to keep control of the outbreak.
#Pakistan is lowering cases and the positive test rate.
4,103 new #Covid19 infections today, down 10% compared to last Thursday.
The positive rate is now 6.7%
89 further Covid deaths
Seoul announced 1,956 new cases of #Covid19 and 11 more deaths. The 7-day infection rate keeps threatening to go down but then pops back up again. It's been at more or less record levels for 3 weeks now
On 7 August #Brunei had only ever seen 357 cases of #Covid19 in the 18 months of the pandemic.
Tomorrow total infections will likely pass 3,000 after a huge spike which so far looks to have peaked with 300 cases in a day just over a week ago.
It's on🟢list and likely stays there.
#Norway is also having a big spike and could hit a new record early tomorrow morning. 1,640 #Covid19 cases this morning, up another 27%. Also 8 more deaths
Many worried nations in the #Caribbean which is probably the world's #Covid19 hotspot right now.
#Grenada is top of the list right now with another national record of 125 new cases in the last report. The Prime Minister is addressing the nation tomorrow with a lockdown likely
Things seem to be calming down on #Antigua & Barbuda, but not out of the woods yet.
Very low cases earlier the past 2 days but 23 new #Covid19 infections today. That's still much lower than the record 62 set 3 days ago. Should be ok if they get to Monday without any new records.
#Barbados continues to climb, but still looks one of the safer places right now. Very difficult to predict if the wave will gather momentum, but right now I don't see any problems for 3-4 weeks. Last update saw 40 new #Covid19 infections, but still a 50% increase.
#Jamaica now and there was a slight fall in the case numbers released late yesterday.
351 new #Covid19 cases, but an all time record 31 new deaths. #JAM may yet push up some more, the positive test rate still a way too high 32%
#StLucia may have passed the peak, but still need another couple of days' data to confirm the hopes.
103 more #Covid19 cases and 2 deaths in the update early this morning. That's slightly down on last week. However testing wasn't great and still a 33% positive test rate
After a couple of rises this wk, #Belgium is steady today with 2,842 new #Covid19 cases, just 53 fewer than last Thursday. Just 2 more deaths.
The extent of #Ukraine's growth is plain to see now as today I can compare like with like. It's a 57% increase with 2,477 cases, 44 dead
Seven weeks since #Covid19 cases peaked in #Russia, the infection rate continues to fall, but the death rate remains at record levels.
18,985 new cases yet 798 daily deaths (again) according to the Ministry of Made Up Stats in the Kremlin.
Strange data from #Philippines too where #Covid19 cases continue to edge up slightly.
16,621 new #Covid19 infections. 148 new deaths
The infection rate's at an all time high.
Yet deaths started coming down quite dramatically a week ago. That's not right!
After 9 days of virtually identical data, #UAE has expanded the parameters very slightly, daring to suggest only 975 new #Covid19 cases today.
An increase in new #Covid19 cases in #Portugal but it follows the huge fall yesterday, so almost certainly just some lag in reporting and nothing to be concerned about.
The last Balkans countries have just reported, and it's good news for #Albania which sees a surprise fall in new #Covid19 cases.
853 positive tests, 35 fewer than last Thursday. 4 deaths.
#NorthMacedonia has been falling for a while.
760 new cases (-321) and 23 deaths
Unexpected rise in #Spain
I guess #Covid19 infections have been falling too quickly and this is a "correction" rather than a sudden change of direction. Tomorrow's data will be important now though.
9,561 new cases, up >2,400
But the infection rate's still lower than 2 days ago
#Morocco continues to make excellent progress in its fight against #Covid19
5,383 new cases this evening, almost exactly 2000 fewer than last Thursday.
Deaths already falling too - down to 70 today.
#France achieves a reduction of over 10% again.
17,621 #Covid19 cases diagnosed today. That's compared to 19,683 this time last week.
It's been confirmed this evening that from the end of the month no-one will be allowed in to nightclubs in the UK without proof of full #Covid19 vaccination.
There is no option to take a rapid test.
The new law will also apply to "other venues where large crowds gather"

Worryingly for #Turkey a 20% increase in new infections compared to last Thursday.
23,496 more #Covid19 cases diagnosed, although with a few more tests than yesterday the positive rate has gone down slightly.
283 more Covid deaths announced.
Just a 15% increase for #Germany as it nears the peak of the wave.
13,854 new cases of #Covid19 detected today.
38 more deaths.
The last published data on testing rates shows UK testing around 8 to 10 x more than Germany with cases 4 times higher.
235 more infections today and 1 Covid deaths.
The positive test rate is now down to 0.45% and Cyprus must have a real chance of making the green list in the next review
The daily #Coronavirus megathread for Tuesday starts early, from Manchester airport.
Because of the early start I missed a few countries from yesterday's thread, first I'll update these #Covid19 totals. Tweets during the day may be delayed due to travel & connectivity issues
1/3 #GreekIslands - yesterday cases nudged lower again in #Greece and there were some very promising data from the islands too.
#Crete cut new cases of #Covid19 by 43% while for #Corfu it was a 48% fall and #Rhodes saw a reduction of 38%.
Now more very concerning news from #Bahrain, one of the most vaccinated territories on the planet.
#Covid19 cases are still rising there - more worrying is the real increase in deaths too.
Second highest daily number of new cases & deaths in the latest update
graph @Worldometers
🚦review imminent, I'm getting a lot of questions.
I reply to everyone but it's so time consuming
I'm now working on 7-day rates for EVERY Greek island.
I'll continue to post free advice and data, so nothing will be hidden from anyone, so please don't be angry or upset! And yes you can still ask questions!
So the big news in UK today is that the single shot Jansen (J&J) #Covid19 vaccine has been approved
1/9 Which countries are the worst liars when it comes to #Covid19 deaths (and which are the most honest)?
There's no definitive way of stating, but analysis of excess deaths is a guide to the real extent of #Coronavirus
I've worked out official deaths as a % of excess deaths..
2/9 This is the best way to expose clear cheating.
But it's not perfect
Many nations suspected of underplaying #Covid19 deaths don't declare mortality data, notably India, Indonesia and Turkey, though for the latter two stats are available for the biggest cities Jakarta/Istanbul
3/9 Data are the latest available for each country but e.g. while Peru, Spain, UK are right up to date, others are >6 months old.
Some nations have negative excess deaths, e.g. Taiwan, New Zealand, Thailand, Australia, Japan, Iceland, Norway.
Having lockdowns, mask wearing etc
