#COVID19India #TamilNadu
1) Tamil Nadu reported large case load right from the beginning of the pandemic in India.
2) TN managed the first wave remarkably well, with v few deaths.
3) The second wave since May end has been more menacing with rising deaths. 1/5
The growth rates are much higher in #TamilNadu than all-India
1) Total cases growing at 4.3% (all-India: 3.4%)
2) Active cases growing at 3.9% (all-India: 2.2%)
3) Recovery growing at 4.5% (all-India: 4.4%)
4) Deaths growing at 5.1% (!!) (all-India: 2.9%)
1) Tamil Nadu has done the most number of tests in India - in absolute terms (>9.7L)
2) The number of positive cases per 100 tests, however, has been rising in the second wave.
3) Implication: given the level of existing infection , TN needs to improve contact tracing + testing.

****Long Thread on #PoolTesting****

This is the time for India to increase the ratio of #Pool tests.

The number of #COVID19 cases in #India has seen a constant rise over the past two weeks. This has been concerning considering that most cities are gradually coming out...
...of the lockdown. Domestic flights have resumed operations and soon, we may see other relaxations coming into effect. Offices and factories are opening up across states and this may certainly lead to a new wave of cases being identified.
#COVID19India #PoolTesting
As of the morning of 27th May, the top four infected states in India, which are Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Gujarat & Delhi amount to around 67% of the total cases recorded in India. But, the concern has also been the rising number of cases in states that were very much in control...

All these days, these were just numbers. An account of #COVID19 impact in #TamilNadu. An account of how bad things in Chennai were. An account of how careless people were. An account of how these numbers will delay return to normalcy. (1/n)
Since both you-know-who and I go to work, we don't stay with either of our parents to ensure all of us are safe in our spaces.

But a couple of days back, I received a call from Amma...

The thing is she doesn't call often. It is Appa who does.

Mind went into overdrive. (2/n)
'Corona reached namma flats da' she said.

Before I could react, she added that pinnaadi veetula, the family of six, grandparents, parents, and two sons, tested positive. The youngest is a teenager.

I have known the family since I was four. I have seen the boys grow up. (3/n)

Weddings in different cultures of India.

Traditional Bengali weddings have four parts: the bride's Gaye Holud, the groom's Gaye Holud, the Beeye and the Bou Bhaat.
The wedding ceremony is known as 'Biya', in the Assamese language. Like all major traditional Hindu weddings, an Assam wedding also has pre & post wedding ceremonies
Kashmiri weddings are very unique and are celebrated with lots of zeal. Jammu and Kashmiri brides look extremely gorgeous in their traditional wedding dress which is usually Sharara or a suit along with a head wear known as Tarang.

CCBCyberCell registering FIR on @SriramMadras is unwanted. Intolerant public officer does not auger well for the greater cause she is responsible for. But what did Sriram do to antagonize her? Eager to find out what it was, I found many bloopers from our health secretary
When I did some digging on bulletins, I find that health secretary is a natural blooper. She makes silly mistakes more often. Perhaps she's stressed out in her job or isolated. Women in top job is not easy either. But when silly errors are too often, it is a concern for all of us
On March 19th when speaking about standards being framed she thinks 2-meter distance is an ideal social distancing but on the next day for some strange reasons she advises 1-meter social distancing. Not a big mistake though, does this convey that she's being stressed out?

There are many in the media and social media who are questioning #TamilNadu government's response to #Covid19India, especially with respect to the low numbers of testing for #coronavirus. There are unfavourable comparisons to other states who have performed more tests.
There is an opinion expressed by knowledgeable public health experts that since the percentage of positive cases identified by the states doing extensive community-level testing is not very big, there may be no big benefit in doing such extensive and expensive testing nationwide.
I work in a private sector multispeciality hospital. We are one of the hospitals that our district health authorities had designated in the city to be prepared with isolation ward for potential #COVID19 patients very early in the epidemic when our state had single-digit numbers.

This thread is going to be on some #doubts regarding the official document released by #tamilnadu govt on 26/03/20.

On #CoronavirusPandemic after the meeting held by CM

1. number of positive cases reported in India is 581 as per ICMR. But here it is mentioned as 571. Why?
2. On 4/2/20 as per the doc, there are no cases reported in India.

But India reported it's its first case on JAN 30.…

Why it's shown as zero in the doc?

3. AS per doc on the stages of spread.
Stage 1-high spread, low mortality
2-rapid spread, low mortality
3-explosive spread, high mortality
4-spread bcoz of mutation

As per WHO
1-imported cases
2-contact transmission
3-community transmission
