Since the capital of India moved from #Calcutta (Kolkata) to #Delhi, for some reason the hatred for Mukherjees became evident. I can guess why #RajaJoykrishna was wiped out, but why his younger cousin #SirAshutoshMukherjee? If you are a student of #Mathematics, have u ever (1/n) Image

Trivia: There is a debate whether Rashbehari Avenue is named after Rashbehari Bose of Rashbehari Ghose. Their GGG Grandson is a good friend of mine and interestingly there is rift in the family over this. Bose was from his mother's side while Ghose.....

Many know where Bengal’s bravest son, #SubhasChandraBose - Netaji – lived in #Calcutta, as he famously escaped house arrest from his home at Elgin Road, in 1940. But not many know where Netaji’s ancestral home or ‘Desh-er-bari’ is. 1/10
Now called ‘Subhasgram’ in honour of #Netaji, it is just 25 km south of #Kolkata, in a village formerly known as Kodalia. Simple and elegant, the two-storey homestead is being restored. 2/10
Among Netaji’s ancestors was Mahipati Bose, who was granted a jagir by the Sultan of #Bengal, Hussain Shah, near the Bose ancestral home in the early 16th century. His grandson Gopinath Bose was also granted a jagir in Purandarpur, named after his title ‘Purandar Khan’. 3/10

A revolt of Navy that would have stopped Partition of #India - A thread.
On the slight autumn day of 18 Feburary 1946 a revolt broke out in Royal Indian Navy by the Sailors. Britishers after World War 2 started to reduce the numbers of sailors. Again it’s simple use and throw policy used here. The numbers were to be reduced from 27, 650 to 11,000.
Reasons sailors revolted were:
• Wages were low.
• Food quality was terrible.
• Indian sailors were ill treated by the British officers.
• Britishers called Indian sailors who supported them in World War 2, colies, black bastards.
• Racism in the RNI was at it’s peak.

You can feel the onslaught.

Had he criticised other contemporary religions the same way, he would possibly be killed rather than him succumbing to his disease.

Derozio is hailed as an epitome of instilling rationalist ideas among the Bengalis. 1/n
For those who might not be knowing, he belonged to Christian parents, a Portuguese (Indian based on nativeness) man, Francis Derozio and Sophia Johnson, of British origin.
He is considered to be the first Indian poet writing in English. He started writing from an age of 14...2/n
He was appointed as a teacher at Calcutta Hindu College (the today Presidency University) at the age of 17. His teachings invigorated a large number of Bengali youth to think independently, the group which played a key role in the Bengal Renaissance.

@PrasanthTweets, @SFLCin's legal director appeared before the Chief Justice's bench in #Calcutta High Court today for the #Hoogli Internet shutdown matter.

@SFLCin had filed an additional affidavit earlier.

For now, the matter has been adjourned for two weeks.
In the arguments that took place today, the Court highlighted that it is important to look into this matter as it will set precedents for future shutdowns.

We believe that this is an important observation that the court has made.

We will be filing detailed replies to the affidavit filed by the West Bengal state government in the meantime.

We will also be uploading more details about the hearing soon. Please watch this space for more.

A thread about doctors based on my observations: #Delhi docs, esp. younger ones, do not touch patients. No clinical exam as is common in #Calcutta No open your mouth wide, turn your eyes to the light, examining your abdomen, listening to your breathing. They prefer test reports>
I have observed this over the past several months as my father has stayed in and out of hospitals, mostly in. Only the older doctors in the hospital, by that I mean those near 60, carry stethoscopes. Is it an outraged #Caclutta habit to examine patients clinically? >
Are doctors reluctant to touch patients now? Is medicine now pathlogy lab based? All machine readings, no human skill?
Yet, I notice all lab reports mention that the results must be clinically co-related. >
