Many know where Bengalās bravest son, #SubhasChandraBose - Netaji ā lived in #Calcutta, as he famously escaped house arrest from his home at Elgin Road, in 1940. But not many know where Netajiās ancestral home or āDesh-er-bariā is. 1/10
Now called āSubhasgramā in honour of #Netaji, it is just 25 km south of #Kolkata, in a village formerly known as Kodalia. Simple and elegant, the two-storey homestead is being restored. 2/10

Among Netajiās ancestors was Mahipati Bose, who was granted a jagir by the Sultan of #Bengal, Hussain Shah, near the Bose ancestral home in the early 16th century. His grandson Gopinath Bose was also granted a jagir in Purandarpur, named after his title āPurandar Khanā. 3/10
A revolt of Navy that would have stopped Partition of #India - A thread.
On the slight autumn day of 18 Feburary 1946 a revolt broke out in Royal Indian Navy by the Sailors. Britishers after World War 2 started to reduce the numbers of sailors. Again itās simple use and throw policy used here. The numbers were to be reduced from 27, 650 to 11,000.
Reasons sailors revolted were:
ā¢ Wages were low.
ā¢ Food quality was terrible.
ā¢ Indian sailors were ill treated by the British officers.
ā¢ Britishers called Indian sailors who supported them in World War 2, colies, black bastards.
ā¢ Racism in the RNI was at itās peak.

Karachi Tramway - #History
1879: John Brunton devised a special grooved bridge rail of inverted U-shape for four foot gauge horse to be later used in the tramways in Karachi.

October 1884: Work starts on the construction of Karachi Tramway. Gauge of the track was 4 feet. John Brunton, formerly Chief Engineer of the Sind-Punjab and Delhi Railway, and engineer to the city of Oxford Tramways becomes the Chief Engineer of Karachi Tramway Project.
April 20, 1885: Steam Tramway was opened in Karachi. There was a ceremonial opening of the Main Line from Scots Kirk neat St Andrewās Church (located on present day Abdullah Haroon Road and Shara-e-Liaqat intersection) to Kiamari. Goods line between McLeod Road

Nel quotidiano aperto, a ben guardare, ci sono notizie inaspettate, spesso positive. Per esempio non ĆØ poco che ci sia Papa Francesco. Capisco invece che per uno di Latina il Frosinone in Serie A sia una pessima notizia, ma sono questioni di campanile poco note ai piĆ¹.

Gaston Roberge SJ (1935-2020), Jesuit from #Calcutta, has been among Indiaās acclaimed #film scholars. Born in Montreal, he joined the #Jesuits in 1956, studied film at @UCLA, came to India in 1961, and was ordained priest in 1967. He passed away on Aug 26 in #Kolkata @SXC_Kol.
In collab with filmmaker #SatyajitRay, #GastonRoberge founded #Chitrabani ā the only independent film library in Calcutta, in 1970. From here, Roberge pioneered film studies from early 70s. His friendship with Ray led to a creative effluence b/w each otherās film theory&practice.
Robergeās #scholarship influenced numerous filmmakers & theorists in #Bengal & India. He authored numerous books on film & media; some of which include: Chitrabani(1975), Mediation(1978), The Faithful Witness (2000), Cyberbani(2005), Media Dancer(2008), Indian Film Theory (2011).

This video is from South #parkstreetcemetery in #Calcutta with1600 tombs built in1767 for those employed with the #britisheastindiacompany not all soldiers. Itās probably the largest #cemetery in 19thcen outside #Europe #America #european men died around 30 years &women younger

For now, the matter has been adjourned for two weeks.

I have observed this over the past several months as my father has stayed in and out of hospitals, mostly in. Only the older doctors in the hospital, by that I mean those near 60, carry stethoscopes. Is it an outraged #Caclutta habit to examine patients clinically? >
Are doctors reluctant to touch patients now? Is medicine now pathlogy lab based? All machine readings, no human skill?
Yet, I notice all lab reports mention that the results must be clinically co-related. >
