Yesterday @Greenpeace released a "research" report asking financial institutions like @Fidelity support changing Bitcoin's code from PoW to PoS.

Let's dive in why this is in bad faith & #TheCodeisPerfect
1/
GPs "research" is the usual misinformation abt how bitcoin works & energy use that has been debunked by *real* climate activists in Bitcoin

> 50% of Bitcoin's network is ZERO emissions, period. Emissions are DECLINING. Carbon NEGATIVE is coming. See 👇🏽
2/
batcoinz.com/beest/
GP is 'concerned' Bitcoin is accelerating a climate crisis, fueled by "Big Finance"

... If GP was truly concerned about the impact of Big Finance, they would focus on legacy finance's carbon emissions (see next tweets)

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐝𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭?

#Decentralized apps, or "#dApps," are #smartcontract enabled software that work just like regular #apps but without a central authority. dApps instead utilise a peer-to-peer #blockchain to function.
For example, the user data for a standard #Web2 service, like Twitter, is stored on centralized servers and is managed by a single organisation. Web2 apps are therefore vulnerable to censorship and one-sided control of user data, which makes them vulnerable to security flaws.
In contrast, #Web3 dApps are permissionless, open-source protocols that spread user data throughout the network. Dapps are therefore less vulnerable to security concerns and resistant to censorship because there is no single point of failure.

My top tips:
1. Educate yourself (eg. in #unitmasters)
2. Add “interested in #blockchain #crypto #web3 etc. to your LinkedIn profile
3. Start creating content in whatever form suits you. Create a public #proofofwork of your involvement in the space
4. Start using Web3 apps!
#1 - @theunitnetwork offers a FREE six-week blockchain literacy programme several times a year.
#2 While you believe #crypto & #Web3 is only for YouTube influencers or #blockchain developers, there are recruiters out there who can't find candidates for #HR, #Marketing, #BizDev, #CustomerSupport and other non-techy roles. Indicate your interest before you have the knowledge!

#ProofOfWork for @SeedSigner (funded by @HRF):

First, get caught up on what you've missed in the last few months:
Throughout this MicroPython R&D I've had to figure out which dev boards to use and slowly start to appreciate what each has to offer.

I started documenting them here.

I really wanted this board to work out.

The #Ethereum #Merge is coming around Sept 14th. It isn't easy to predict the exact date bc/ it is defined on terminal total difficulty but it will happen around this date.

🧵But what is the merge and why is it so important? This thread should help to explain it.
#EthereumMerge Image
What is the #Merge?
It is a long-awaited change from #ProofOfWork to #ProofOfStake or to be more precise the merging of the #PoW Execution Layer with the #PoS Execution Layer.

This will bring the #Ethereum Chain into a new era by removing miners and using validators instead. Image
Imagine a castle wall: #PoW is a wall made of electricity & if someone wants to break through, they need at least 51% of the total energy in place. #PoS is a wall made of money & if someone wants to break it, they need at least half the money piled up (50% atm: 6.7 Mio #ETH) Image

ETHW Core: An open letter to the Ethereum community [1/9]

The ETHW has been controversial, to say the least, in the past few weeks. The ETHW Core feels compelled to clarify a few points:

1/n
Who are the ETHW Core members?

The ETHW Core members are geeks and crypto investors from all over the world who believe in proof-of-work (PoW). It was this belief that rallied the believers into a community where members volunteered to work on ETHW.

2/n
Why do ETHW Core members choose to stay anonymous?

The ETHW Core members are as anonymous between each other as to the public.

Bitcoin was a product of cypherpunks. Privacy and anonymity are common practices when communicating within the cypherpunk communities

What is Proof of Stake (PoS) ?

Our last 🧵 looked at the original Nakamoto #consensus method that uses #ProofofWork - a trusted & robust method - but very time & energy consuming.

Enter #ProofofStake
1/ With #ProofofStake validators don’t race to solve #cryptographic puzzles (also known as #mining and the main reason #ProofofWork is so energy intensive).

Instead validators #stake their own #crypto assets in order to participate in consensus.
2/ This uses much less energy and is faster - which is important for the #environment and for #applications that require speed and scalability.

Participating in #TheMerge could be the single largest environmental impact I can make in my lifetime. We need to get #Ethereum off #ProofOfWork and onto #ProofOfStake as soon as we can!
Here is some of what I have been doing 👇
Genesis Validator 💪
I had no idea what I was doing but wanted to be a part of something big. I now see the holders of this poap as some of the bravest visionaries in the Ethereum community.
Early Testing 🤓
I felt like I was late to the game when I first got in. Little did I know how early it was.

In the most significant #blockchain upgrade in history, the #Ethereum network is moving from a #proofofwork (#PoW) to a #proofofstake (#PoS) consensus mechanism to confirm transaction blocks, known as “The Merge”

Read more and debunk myths: bit.ly/3uQ4RZg
1/ The two major upgrades, PoS #consensus and #sharding, promise to deliver fast transaction times with low network costs without sacrificing scalability, security, or decentralization. #TheMerge is Phase 0 of the rollout of the Ethereum 2.0 improvements this year. Image
2/ ‘The Merge’ will replace PoW and the temporary split solution with the more energy-efficient PoS consensus layer, the Beacon Chain. Transaction blocks will no longer be confirmed by solving computationally intensive puzzles. Image

An Open letter to Greenpeace about #BTC and #proofofwork

Dear @greenpeace ...
1/17
Together we've fought the logging of our native forests, stood together to protest the oil exploration of our deep sea, collaborated in activism to persuade an errant multinational to change. I've supported your work morally, spiritually & financially across 4 decades
2/17 Today to quote a certain movie character you are breaking my heart and going down a path I cannot follow.

Saying “bitcoin is OK, we just want you to stop using proof of work” is like telling an opera singer, “Singing is fine, I just want you to stop opening your mouth.”

#ProofOfWork for @SeedSigner Week 4:

v0.5.0 PSBT flow getting so close to a complete first draft!

Nothing is final, but we've figured out solutions for so many of the challenging UI and complex tech problems in this area.

Not final. Not perfect. But getting REALLY F'N GOOD!
But first a side note: A ton of work went into this @SpecterWallet release.

You'll see me continue to contribute to Specter where I can. I am full-time SeedSigner, but guess how I spend my evenings and weekends? More coding!

I have no life, y'all.

Back to @SeedSigner: As the project keeps growing we have to keep stepping up our documentation and tutorial game.

My English teacher background makes these tasks actually strangely enjoyable.

🧵 THREAD N°17 : #blockchain et #environnement

La blockchain est régulièrement pointée du doigt pour son impact environnemental, certains allant jusqu'à dire qu'il faut bannir les cryptos.

Mais qu'en est-il vraiment ? Peut-on trouver d'autres solutions ?

The #Ethereum #proofofstake #phase0 #beaconchain is getting close to launch!

So what?

Here's a thread to explain why millions of dollars of #ETH are being moved into this state of the art gadget, what makes it different from other #PoS systems, and why it was worth the wait!
First things first: even though the #beaconchain is being referred to as an #eth2 or "Ethereum 2.0" technology, it does not exist to replace the current Ethereum Virtual Machine we know and love as "Ethereum 1.0" today. If you're using the EVM, you're fine. It's not going away.
Instead, the beacon chain is a gadget that was planned even from before the launch of "Ethereum 1.0" to be swapped in for the #proofofwork system, called "Ethash", which currently secures that same EVM environment.
