okay, this is as good a tweet as any for a little thread about "crunch culture". CEO @GlenSchofield of Striking Distance Studios (@sd_studios) furnishes me with the pretext, and I apologize in advance for what I'm about to do: make an example of him.

Mr. Schofield says he's a #CEO. now...I'm going to tell Mr. Schofield, directly, the *assumptions* that I make about #CEOs—all CEOs. in other words I am giving Mr. Glen Schofield a description of my _stereotype_ of a CEO, formed mostly from reading news articles.

that is to say, my stereotypical CEO is purely my own. this is *my* set of assumptions about the sort of person Mr. @GlenSchofield is likely to be.

first I assume that he's always living in an endless bustle, and rarely feels that he ever rests or relaxes.

a lot of thought over a long period of time, here and there, has gone into this thread about fasc!st sexuality. because...this is an *issue*, and it's one that I used to regard as completely baffling—because I grew up abused and isolated and sexually repressed.

honest frank portrayals of fasc!sm in fiction have always throbbed with depraved and predatory sexuality. three examples that come immediately to mind from my own media experiences are Alan Moore's "V for Vendetta", Luchino Visconti's "The Damned", and of course Pasolini.

mind you, I've never *seen* "Saló" but I'd read and seen enough commentary about it to know that it's devoted to examining just this topic: the nightmarish fusion of fasc!st ideology and sexual abuse.

these two things really do go together. the first implies the second.

In this thread we go over Gas - the fuel of blockchain.

1/8 Image
Every smart contract executed on the blockchain is not automatically processed. Just like buying concert tickets, every user falls in line in a virtual queue - waiting for their turn to come. The user’s queue number depends on how much gas fees they pay.

What are gas fees?

Gas fees are #cryptocurrency paid by a user through the blockchain - determining the user’s queue number and transaction processing time. Gas fees also compensate for the service provided by miners or validators - people that power the blockchain itself.

oh I had some riff on "#money as the root of all evil" but I'm not sure that I can reconstruct it.

the general idea: #capitalism has created a society in which *all entities* no matter what they are—animal, vegetable, mineral, abstract, other—are given a numerical value.

"everything has a price", you could say.

remember how there used to be all those Twitter bots, or Twitter web applications, that would give you the purported #money value of your account based on some crude algorithm or other?

I've just described much of #capitalism.

there's myriads of people out there who have no other job than pretending that they're good at assigning monetary values to entities.

most of them work in #insurance, but there's many other professions that host people whose sole function is assigning values to things.

@mtaibbi I wonder if these passages have as "chilling" an effect on free speech as Mr. @elonmusk himself. he did try to get a @Tesla whistle-blower murdered you know, Mr. @mtaibbi—and I'm guessing he's tried more than once.

maybe he's even *succeeded*.

@mtaibbi @elonmusk @Tesla there's a lovely irony here, Mr. @mtaibbi, which is this: Mr. @elonmusk would be a gold mine to an *honest* journalist.

an inquiry into whether @Tesla workers have ended up assaulted or dead at the hands of police in the past, for example, would probably bear fruit.

@mtaibbi @elonmusk @Tesla perhaps we should look into the matter ourselves, hm?

instead, Mr. @mtaibbi, @munkdebates winner, you've appointed yourself one of Mr. @elonmusk's *press agents*. perhaps you're getting a payoff in some way—vestiture in @Tesla perhaps, or #cryptocurrency nonsense.

one of the things that #capitalism has done most notably is that it's given us a "leisure class". it's given us a seemingly permanent overclass of people with lucrative but *non-productive* careers, the sorts of "careers" that require very little actual work or effort.

our "ruling class" comprises an assortment of professional persons who are usually "in business", in some way.

they're corporate managers and executives, people working in finance, property owners and landlords, stockbrokers and traders, people with "passive income".

by "passive income" I mean income deriving from someone else's labor. collecting rent and interest on loans, for example, is "passive income". you don't work for it; your tenants and your debtors are the ones actually *earning* the money. you're simply collecting it.

@saylor @dergigi that's *ridiculous*. a #blockchain block is very "impure" information. that is to say, it has very little information in it, relative to its bulk. most of the bits are *noise*—that's what #cryptography is, the art of hiding useful information amid a lot of noise.

@saylor @dergigi that's one of the reasons that #cryptocurrency is so woefully inefficient at everything it does: all that cryptography, laboriously encoding useful info into imitation noise, and then decoding that almost-noise at the other end, is computationally expensive.

@saylor @dergigi that's inherent in the nature of @Bitcoin and anything built around #cryptography and especially #blockchain technology, Mr. @saylor. it's *hiding* a tiny amount of actually useful information within massive amounts of noise.

"pure information"? really, Mr. @saylor?

In #tokenomics, demand refers to consumers' desire for a particular cryptocurrency.

If the demand increases faster than the supply, the price of the #cryptocurrency will increase.

How does demand increase?

#demand #valuecreation #web3 Image
What can increase the demand for a token?

1. Increase in Awareness: When there is an increase in awareness of the project, the demand can increase.

2. Increase in Utility: When there is an increase in utility in the project, the demand can increase. Image
Keep in mind: The core demand driver for a token is always the value creation of the project.

If this is not the case, the token price will flame out faster than you'd expect. Image

The measure, said the company, seeks to give it solidity and "slow down the hyper-growth" that it had experienced in recent months, in order to avoid new capital injections for the next three years.

Here’s a way forward for Ripple, in order to settle with the SEC:

Register #Ripple as a publicly-traded company, offering legal $XRP stock. (As an olive branch, offer free shares to everyone who has owned $XRP #cryptocurrency, as Uniswap did with $UNI.)
Create a new token called XBP (which stands for Cross-Border Payments) that takes the place of XRP. It should only be available to institutions that use it for payments, not retail investors. Denominating this in $USD would probably be a smart political move.
Pay whatever you have to pay to settle with the SEC.

By doing this, Ripple will allow the SEC to have a victory,

it will become a publicly-listed company, and it will legitimize its payment network.

On the dangers of and solutions to alt coin scams

1/ Do not be persuaded by an altcoin’s publicity campaign, no matter how ‘official’ and ‘substantive’ it may seem.

Because investors often provide the coin founders with capital, they can afford to ‘dazzle’ the public with all sorts of marketing gimmicks.
2/ Risk of Exchanges

As of this writing, the crypto industry is far less regulated than traditional banking is.

This is good, since government regulation hampers innovation and growth.
