6)To this point in the "Pious" campaign, #ISIS has released vids (in order) from: W. Africa, Sinai, East Asia, Caucasus, Khorasan, Azerbaijan, Libya, Turkey, and now Tunisia.
7)Although #Turkey was a desperate stretch, these pledge videos should not be ignored, and are in fact reminiscent of global pledges seen in 2014 when #isis announced the caliphate - many from areas that ended up dealing with significant IS presence.
8)Latest vid in ongoing “Pious” campaign comes from #ISIS Somalia Prov.-where the group is barely relevant! Vid shows Abdul Qadr Mu’min, a high-ranking official who defected to ISIS from #Shabaab in 2015, restating pledge to #Baghdadi alongside fighters.

10)#ISIS presence in #Somalia pales in comparison to #Shabaab. Shabaab, which controls large swathes of territory in the country, vowed to eradicate ISIS. Given its vastly superior infrastructure, the road will prove difficult for ISIS to remain relevant in the region.

1) BREAKING: #ISIS’ Furqan issues new video showing leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, marking the first time he is shown in a video since his July 2014 sermon at the Great Mosque in #Mosul
2) The video shows Baghdadi in a casual conversational setting with others (their faces blurred). He talks about war against "Crusaders" and about battles in #Baghouz #Syria being over, indicating that this interview was filmed somewhat recently.
3) In the vid, titled “In the Hospitality of the Emir of the Believers,” Baghdadi praises #SriLanka attackers over images of the attackers/attack (though not in the visual interview section; the audio may have thus been added via a later recording)--calling it revenge for Baghouz

1) BREAKING: Shooter at #SanDiego synagogue appears to be a white supremacist who described his hate for Jews & others in a letter. States he was inspired by #NewZealand shooter Brenton Tarrant and urges fellow white supremacists to carry out their own attacks.
2) In his letter, the likely attacker (name not yet released) says it took him four weeks to plan the shooting, and claims to have “scorched a mosque in Escondido with gasoline a week after Brenton Tarrant’s sacrifice and they never found shit on me.”
3) The letter also lists those that “inspire” him, including Adolf Hitler and Moon Man, a white supremacist meme character. To that point, the letter stresses the power of Internet to white supremacist community, urging them to “make memes, shitpost”

1) Hundreds killed and hundreds more wounded in Easter blasts at #SriLanka churches. While no group has yet claimed responsibility, targeting Christians is a staple of #ISIS attack directives (not to mention past attacks in places like Egypt).
2) To that point, #ISIS supporters are already celebrating the attacks as revenge for the military campaign against the group: “Just like the massacre of mosques, it is an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” ent.siteintelgroup.com/Chatter/is-sup…
3) While #SriLanka has indeed been mentioned within #ISIS chatter—along with members from Sri Lanka touted as being within the group’s ranks—the country has never been a prominent staple of incitements and recruitment to the like of other nations.

The scale of the #SriLanka attacks is hard to fathom - 290 dead & 500+ wounded.

Target choice, scope, coordination & device success rate makes an international nexus here *highly* likely.

Both #ISIS & #AQIS have reported links w. Sri Lanka/ns, but no evidence yet links to this.
#pt: #SriLanka authorities have pinned initial blame on indigenous Islamist movement @ntjinfo, but I'd be amazed if they - or any similar local organization - had the capacity to conduct such a complex series of mass-casualty attacks.

The bomb-maker alone appears very adept.
@ntjinfo #pt: As @RobertPostings has revealed, one of the allegedly-identified #SriLanka suicide bombers, "Zahran Hashim," was an overt #ISIS supporter (as of late-2017), with a social media following of 4,000+.

#SriLanka has also acknowledged ~40 citizens joined #ISIS in #Syria/#Iraq.

I am trying not to get into the war of words between #India and #Pakistan over whether or not the Indian Air Force shot down a Pakistani F-16 in their recent confrontation. But since it keeps coming up on my timeline, some general observations (thread).
I learned from my first book on the Siachen war that nobody is a reliable witness. A lot of this is fog of war - tricks of memory, but also hierarchy – people will say what their bosses want to hear, aggrandise their own role, cover up for incompetence or simply get it wrong.
Among the most frustrating elements of writing up the Siachen war was that I found contradictions between men who had fought on the same side, sometimes even on the same day.

Incident happened about over an hour ago. Pakistani jets are on high alert. Pakistani and Kashmiri sources based along LoC reporting heavy air activity from Indian side over LoC.
