Mike believes we will see at least a double in uranium spot price from current levels.
Consensus has been consistently wrong and unable to predict recent development within the industry that have lead to price appreciation.

#uranium on my mind today vis-a-vis utility inventories.

A utility holds inventory for two reasons: it’s a bulwark against supply disruption, and a convenient way to dollar cost-average fuel costs when prices are uncertain/volatile. So why, then, *these* inventory levels? (1/8)
Prior to COVID, uranium delivery has been undisrupted for a decade. Unless someone fails to deliver because of COVID, the streak will continue. The same streak continues in conversion, enrichment, and fabrication. So, in short, contracts appear secure to end users. (2/8)
Inventory costs money, too. Forget storage - the cost of money to hold millions in inventory is significant, especially for utilities with past bankruptcies. With prices on a long-term downtrend and supply secure, drawing down inventory is both cash flow and reduced costs. (3/8)

#uranium - All is not well in the spot market! 3 issues:

1. By my numbers, Cameco was 40% of all spot buying in Q1.

2. The headline spot price everyone is getting excited about is the price for delivery at Cameco's converter but the price for delivery at the other major
converters has not moved as much. Price at Converdyn or Orano is US$3.50-4.00/lb lower. Thats highly unusual. I've never seen an arbitrage of more than 25-50c between major converter delivery locations.

3. The forward curve has flattened markedly, ie, the 12 and 24 month
prices are not moving up as quickly as the front month (where Cameco buying is concentrated).

...all this tells me the spot price has ONLY moved over US$30/lb due to Cameco buying. Admirable work by Cameco but they're now in a bind. They need US$40-45/lb+ to restart their

1/3 Next major resistance for #uranium spot lies at 35, which was the base of '14/'15 that broke down leading to a massive -50% decline in U spot during '16. A correction to 31.50ish(29.00) is still possible, which would probably be a once in a lifetime buying opportunity.
2/3 Even though 35 is a major turnover point for #uranium sector, spot price recovery can see a consolidation phase there. This would push most U stocks down due high expectations, leading to more volatile low volume trading environment.
3/3 Basic fundamentals for the sector are pretty much impossible to negate in short term. Deficit is real and plants are being built & planned for growing energy demand of increasing energy-intensive lifestyle. #Uranium spot dropping below 29 would indicate bottoming to continue.

Ok, couple of thoughts on #tankers noise. Here we go:
Bullish thesis:
1) contango for longer. Obviously dead now, no if and but. Dead. If it reappears it'll be a whole new case, for a bunch of different reasons.
2) supply/demand. Nonsense.
Supply is rising, demand is falling that's a reality. No matter how slow supply is rising when demand is peaked and then falling (secular!) this is a bad combination. Wanna proof? #drybulk. Ok, but how about scrapping?
3) first of all. You need rates to fall below OPEC for some
time and kind of a short-term hopeless consensus to kick this cycle, which is not a good position to be in from shareholders perspective. Secondly it'll take time and has to overcome the supply so that the whole tonnage really starts to contract, not just offsets increase.

Saturday morning thoughts:

Noticeably #uranium twitter has become a little more bearish again - the idea of another false start has crept into the minds of new investors

I strongly believe this is NOT another false start & this time it is fundamentally different

Here why 👇
Sustained spot over 30$

Psychologically this is a big hurdle & frankly there was little resistance getting there indicating spot is very thin as we assumed - as RR says fat old rich guys with fond memories of the last bull are waiting - this is their signal & they will be buying
de-stocking occurs - term will rise

Utilities have placed priority on health & safety measures due to Covid - this has once again delayed long term fuel arrangements - de-stocking of historically low inventories continue at a rapid pace - reactors are not shutting down

1/8 $UUUU #Uranium
Notable acquisition of a strategic US uranium project in Utah by ASX-listed $TIN just miles north of Energy Fuel's White Mesa Mill ($TIN +200% overnight). Bullish for UUUU, though buried in the release - i.e., not being picked up by US market/investors.

"US Government recently announced multi-year commitment to support domestic uranium

Hi there! Since @pintofscienceAU has to go online this year, I’ve been asked to introduce myself and what I do here instead of at the pub. So... my name’s Jess and I’m a nuclear chemist ☢️👩‍🔬. Grab yourself a beer and get ready for #ThisIsMyScience #AtomsToGalaxies
Did you know that upwards of 96% of ‘nuclear waste’ could potentially be recycled? That’s why I don’t like calling it waste, but prefer ‘used nuclear fuel’. It may have been used once, but we can use it again! #NuclearWaste #recycling #wastemanagement #ThisIsMyScience
Removing just 5 actinide elements from used nuclear fuel would reduce the volume, radiotoxicity & lifetime of the remaining waste from ~130,000 to 270 years! Plus, the actinides can be re-used as fuel. I research new ways to separate actinides from used fuel. #ThisIsMyScience

1) Why are #Uranium #stocks so severely undervalued relative to Spot #U3O8 price?🤔 There are several reasons but biggest by far was decision by Global X Uranium ETF $URA in January 2018 to switch from 100% to only 50% U3O8 stocks! They had to unload over US$200M in U stocks! ..2
2) In January 2018, $URA held over US$400M worth of #uranium stocks. The switch to 50% led to a selling-off of US$200M worth of #stocks into a tiny illiquid sector, driving down share prices of almost every U stock across the board starting in March 2018. But it got worse... /3
3) $URA had been the Sentiment Indicator for #Uranium sector. Where $URA went, #U3O8 #stocks would follow.🐏 As U stock prices plummeted, $URA plummeted, so more investment firms redeemed $URA units, creating a downward spiral🌪️ so by end of 2019 over US$320M in U stocks sold..4

I have some legit questions for people who hate renewables and think they're a waste of time/money/resources/hope. Not looking to start arguments here, I'm looking to understand views
Are you arguing we should put all the money currently spent on renewables (including research, govt subsidies, etc) into research for advanced nuclear? Worth it to put the amount of clean energy in the US on hold for, at minimum, years until we have designs certified AND built?
Or should we try convincing/enticing/forcing utilities to starting build more large reactors with existing design certs NOW, like AP1000s? Or build ESBWRs, APR1400s (neither of which have been built in the US before), also putting the addition of clean energy on hold for years?

Here are some of main points that came out in Cameco's $CCO $CCJ 2020 Q1 Conference Call. The overall theme was that recent transition towards a seller's market in the #uranium space has been accelerated by #COVID19 supply disruptions. Cameco is moving into driver's seat..
2) Cameco is seeing broad-based #uranium demand in the Spot market led by producers like themselves trying to fill delivery contracts. #Nuclear utilities not dominant yet. No month-end price dips in March/April signal tighter market. Material availability is inverse to price...
3) Cameco agrees with Kazatomprom CEO that Carry Trade is declining as Spot #uranium oversupply ends. Huge primary supply deficit eliminates availability of material for carry traders. Result is utilities returning to "classic" long-term contracting as traders cannot deliver LT..

#Nuclear #Energy & the draft 2020 American Energy Innovation Act

1/ A thread for those researching the #uranium space who wish to reconcile the metal's bullish thesis with the BIPARTISAN (emphasis) legislative efforts currently underway in support of nuclear’s long-term future
2/ Firstly, two pro-nuclear Bills became law in ’18 & ’19 – Nuclear Energy Innovation & Capabilities Act; NE Innovation & Modernization Act. Now, numerus other NE Bills (through Committee) were combined into one larger, stimulative, shovel ready, clean energy mega-legislation
3/ Feb 27, 2020: the BIPARTISAN American Energy Innovation Act was introduced, compiling > 50 energy-related Bills to replace/modernize EPACT2005. Passage in the Senate is likely, the House requires more climate mandates. Highlights: #energyinnovation2020

Thread on Kazakhs Production

Kazakh's can now sell their uranium at the spot price to their Swiss marketing subsidiary which can then market it higher aboard or pool inventory to sell at a higher price

No more direct selling into spot market as per Kazakhs transfer pricing laws
ISR Production

“It’s important to keep in mind that ISR production is similar to oil and gas production. It produces a lot when the well is first tapped and then production declines. As the production declines, new wells are drilled to offset the production decline rates."
First is mine exploration and mine development expenditures where Kazak’s have gone from spending $94m a year in 2011 to $18m in 2017. It's hard to imagine an 80% drop in mine exploration and development investment coinciding with increasing production (or even being maintained).

Cameco has taken 25M lbs out of #uranium supply since 2016 thru multiple mine closures & #Kazahstan has cut 20% thru 2021, creating a 50M lbs #U3O8 primary supply deficit today. Inventories are being drawn down significantly.

1/ Some of my notes on the "Behind Closed Doors In the Whitehouse" panel at #VRIC20...

Stephen Moore: I do feel confident that Pres Trump will issue some kind of executive order to re-start American #uranium production... I think the deal with come through the Dep of Defence.
2/ Stephen Moore: The only question is when it will happen. Either it will happen soon, or it will happen after the election.

Marin Katusa: I think it will happen after the election.

Stephen Moore: It doesn't make sense for Trump to wait until after the election.
3/ Marin Katusa: I think the number will be between $55 and $65 for a LT supply contract with the Government.

Amir Adnani: The deal that has been purposed is a 1.4 Billion dollar purchase over 10 years.

☢️ The Biggest Nuclear Scandal You’ve Never Heard Of ☢️

Since this was tweeted, the #Obama admin ended the #MegatonsToMegawatts program, disincentivizing #Russia from decommissioning its #nuclear stockpiles, limiting our primary source of imported #uranium.

The company that…

But wait, there’s more…
… here’s the kicker: Dep. Sec. of #Energy Dan #Poneman parachuted from his cushy gov’t career to becoming President & CEO of the company after it emerged from bankruptcy as @Centrus_Energy. Then #Centrus signed a big agreement with #Russia’s state-owned energy giant, #Rosatom
