The COVID 💉 is comprised of mRNA encased in a lipid nanoparticle.
The mRNA is codon optimized with n1-methy-pseudoU and codes for a more durable spike protein.
It also contains dsDNA bacterial contaminants and an SV40 promoter.

Le infezioni batteriche resistenti agli antibiotici

Ma si possono trattare con un virus.

A thread

#antibioticresistance #antibiotics #bacteria #infectiousdiseases

There’s an explosion of interest about #sewage in our rivers and seas, and concerns about what this means for people swimming in our rivers and seas. We’ve been working on this and the threat that antibiotic resistant bacteria #AMR poses to human health. A 🧵of key results:
1/8 Our systematic review of the risk of experiencing symptoms of infection after sea bathing in high-income countries found people who bathe in the sea are more likely to feel ill afterwards, compared to people who stay on land.
2/8 Our recent epidemiological survey of English and Welsh beach goers in 2014-2015 also showed that the risk of illness (like diarrhoea and vomiting) was higher in bathers compared to non-bathers.

How I search and read scientific papers now…

A 🧵

After trying many methods of reading research papers effectively, I have now (at least) settled on this format.

@PhDVoice @ThePhDPlace @PhD_Genie @OpenAcademics #AcademicChatter #AcademicTwitter #scicomm #STEM
I think it's just 4 step method! At first, it may feel time-consuming but once you get a grip on it then it's quite easy.
1.I first start by searching for the main topic that I am working on -- #AntibioticResistance in @OK_Maps. Now “Open Knowledge Maps” creates a visual knowledge map of the topic you're searching for. Also, lets you know if a paper has open access.

Current research on microplastics is the stuff of nightmares-

They’re dangerous, they’re spread through our food, they're in the air... they’re everywhere

Thread 1/x
#health #ClimateCrisis #PlasticPollution #food
Much of the research is trapped behind paywalls, and only reported on in a limited, fragmented pattern

-like so much else when large corporations cause environmental damage and impose widespread health impacts on the public

#health #ClimateCrisis #PlasticPollution #food
The growing risks of microplastics are a direct function of an ongoing push by the same sociopathic corporations that are driving the climate crisis

I recently visited a pharmacy near my house. Beside me in the line, there was a man in his late 40s with receeding hairline and reading glasses in a red polo T-shirt. I inquired about my medicines meanwhile I observed him thinking about how to approach the person standing..
Nothing of the sort you might be imagining though!!

I was listening in on his conversation while waiting for my order. He simply explained his symptoms to the man over the counter, that he felt slight burning in his eyes and a foreign body sensation since mornimg.

And requested to be given some drops!

Without a moment's hesitation to my surprise the said pharmacist reached to a drawer near him and handed over a bottle of eye drops, labelled as Ciprofloxacin. I was shocked!

#AntibioticResistance is a global health threat. As such it requires global collaboration and also action across sectors. However some of the biggest challenges are difficult to address because they are our old structural issues...
The availability of quality diagnostics and the
Availability of well trained human resources for health are KEY for fighting resistance.
Without diagnostics it's very difficult to understand the burden and patterns and we do not cure what we can't see.
And without HRH we can't implement the AMR Pillars.
At least for the human component,
It is to a great extent, an ACCESS to care issue.
We need to invest in health systems and to tackle all access barriers for everyone. Remember when we talk about infectious diseases No one is safe until everyone is safe.

🆕The world is still failing to develop desperately needed antibacterial treatments, despite growing awareness of the urgent threat of #AntibioticResistance: WHO report
▶️ Image
None of the 43 antibiotics that are currently in clinical development sufficiently address the problem of drug resistance in the world’s most dangerous bacteria.
Almost all the new antibiotics that have been brought to market in recent decades are variations of antibiotic drugs classes that had been discovered by the 1980s.

Firstly, antibiotics should only be used in the presence of a confirmed infection that, that particular antibiotic can handle, when we tell you in the Pharmacy you need atleast 2 cards of the drugs, we are not trying to...

Today is the start of #SHW2020! Each day this week, I'll be tweeting about Britain's long, tempestuous and ever-so-slightly bonkers love–hate relationship with its #sexualhealth.

Darlings, brace yourselves. 💋 #SHW20 Image
We begin with the Victorians, who, contrary to popular belief, were obsessed with sex. In the C19, the only known #STIs were syphilis and gonorrhoea. Diagnosis depended on observable symptoms (no blood tests/smears). Effective treatments were non-existent. Image: @ExploreWellcome Image
In 1864 the British government introduced the Contagious Diseases Acts, intended to protect the armed forces through 'regulation' of 'common prostitutes'. The Acts gave police almost-unlimited discretionary powers to arrest any woman they thought might be soliciting. Image: HCPP Image

As a record number of countries are now monitoring & reporting on #antibioticresistance, new data reveals that a worrying number of bacterial infections are increasingly resistant to the medicines 💊 at hand to treat them.

High rates of resistance among antimicrobial medicines frequently used to treat common infections, such as urinary tract infections or some forms of diarrhea, indicate that the world is running out of effective ways to tackle these diseases.

The increase of #antimicrobialresistance could further be fueled by the inappropriate use of antibiotics during the #COVID19 pandemic.
