📌significant transmission drop after #lockdownindia, but Rt as of 22 Apr still above 1

14 days of quarantine: Love in the time of Corona
#extendlockdown #COVIDー19 #Covid_19 #mentalhealth #loveinthetimeofcorona
I have come back. into chaos. Just returned from the Holi holidays. First day into work after seven days. And they put me in quarantine. I hang my white coat.

It doesn’t feel the same

#lockdowneffect #Quarantine #spreadloveinthetimeofcorona
2/When I went home there was only one suspected case.

The Pandemic was mostly in Italy and US.

We were laughing how HOD have the most to fear before the holiday

I request Punjab CM @capt_amarinder to prepone the paddy transplantation season to June 1 by removing the ban on transplantation of paddy till June 15 keeping in view of the severe labour shortage due to return of migrant labour to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. 1/3
#lockdownindia Image
I would also urge CM to exponentially increase #paddy transplantation machines in the State to increase mechanisation so that the labour shortage could be offset to some extent. And for the farmers willing to purchase this machinery should be given 75 % subsidy. 2/3
Further, sensing the situation State government should also permit #transplantation of PUSA 44 paddy variety which is being disallowed on the pretext that it takes 20 to 22 days more to mature than other varieties leading to high moisture content later. 3/3

Santosh Solanki, a ward assistant at the Naidu Infectious Diseases Hospital, Pune has been serving patients amidst the Covid pandemic. During the swine-flu outbreak as well, he was one of the many faceless staffers who worked from morning till late at night.
While doctors and nurses are often recognised for their work, seldom are ward assistants or orderlies given any credit. Yet, staffers like Solanki continue to serve the patients selflessly. Even Solanki’s mother was a cleaning staff at the hospital, so was his grandmother.
Solanki says, “There are times when we are treated badly by patients or their family members, but I have no regrets. Rich or poor, we are all humans. The disease doesn’t discriminate. We know that they are under tremendous stress. So, we always respond to all patients politely.”

4k+ cases, 100+ deaths
- Tablighi, Dharavi super-spreaders key for rise
- TN, AP doubling every 2-3 days
- Central, South India = 70% of total cases
- MH, KL same till D20, MH rising, KL flattening

@covid19indiaorg #COVID2019india #IndiaFightsCorona
Delhi: 500+ cases
Mumbai: 400+ cases
Kasargod: ~150 cases
Indore, Pune, Chennai, Jaipur: ~100 cases
Thane: ~75 cases
Noida, Ahmadabad, Bengaluru, Kurnool, Kannur: ~50+ cases
India's death toll slope steeper than US at same stage⚠️

Things to note:
- Deaths reported only from hospitals. Many deaths occur whose cause being covid-19 is identified later.
- Watch for general trends. Focus on slopes, not specifics.

1n Pointing out that #TablighJamaat is disproportionately responsible for the spread of a disease is NOT Islamophobia. It comes from the methods of political negotiation that muslims developed in the wake of 1857 & have been systematically rewarded by both Britain and India
2n Given their eviction from power, their society never moved past the feudal structure of power capture by few elite families. Given their weak economic & electoral hand: their tactics have remained consistent: escalating through obstinacy, obstructionism & finally violence.
3n An example of this is Partition. Jinnah starts with impossible maximalist demands, then starts obstructionism, & finally calls for violence. Issue is this pattern was rewarded by the British, then by the INC & now by the BJP. This strategy has proved brilliant for them.

1: India is under a national lockdown to battle the #Covid19 pandemic for the next 3 weeks. The Government of India and various state governments must ensure the lockdown doesn't aggravate people's hardships, by guaranteeing the operation of essential services.

2: Despite Govt of India' clarification that essential services will continue to operate during the lockdown, news reports across India show that police are forcibly shutting down grocery shops, vegetable and fruit vendors and meat shops. This harassment must stop immediately.
3: The lockdown must not be enforced through brute force by the police. Excessive & arbitrary use of force by the police only stands to worsen the existing fear & anxiety of the public. Govt of India must reach out to people & inform them about the pandemic at a community level.

Splitters are a quick, simple way to 4X no of patients each ventilator supports. The designs are #opensource & they can be printed locally (remotely) by doctors & hospitals. Demo video

I along with @jboutelle @rashmi are supporting Sonal in his effort. /2

Thread : Disability & #COVID2019india

Putting disability-related Coronavirus action points in 1 place.

1st, as told to @ndmaindia , crisis comm from @MoHFW_INDIA and states is classist and ableist. Bilingual, responsive, multimodal content pls. #A11y
We've had to defy Govt rules on approved content, in the interest of serving the disability community in India by making a resource for a range of specific needs of PwD in India - sign language, AAC, media description, EasyRead... #DIDRR
Shame @MSJE_AIC !
What about sustaining other regular life-saving interventions in the time of #covidindia ?
Blood for those who are transfusion dependent and disinfection protocols for those who are dialysis dependent for a start?

Again, individual organising as rescue!…
