Autism trans 🧵: If your child is high functioning #autistic & just coming out as 'trans': 1. This is likely trauma based & autism based 2. They have been preyed upon or groomed because of their #autism What I mean by this is #autistic children teens or adults are socially
Naive & fullibe Due to their #autistic brain wiring. They do NOT 'see' or understand the bad 'intentions' of others. This gets them into all manner of troubles across the lifetime. They are highly vulnerable & need safeguarding due to their naivety #innocent #groomed #deceived
The way their brain is uniquely wired means they must have healthy responsible role models & mentors in their lives otherwise they are easily manipulated, led astray, taken advantage of, deceived, gaslit & worse. It does matter how high their cognitive IQ is #trauma #PTSD

Hello! I gave a long-ass interview for a #Bloomberg @business @bloombergtax article on Ernst and Young @EYTwitter's new neurodiversity initiative as a mental health expert and #actuallyautistic person and I'm glad to see that my opinion was IGNORED and TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT! 1/
The piece: "Growing EY Initiative Promotes Neurodiversity in the Workplace" news.bloombergtax.com/financial-acco… 2/ (prepare to cringe)
I'm going to just hope that the journalist I spoke with @TzulRichard (2023 journalism school, intern?) was overridden by his editors incl @JeffMHarrington. Because he was thoughtful and listened well during the interview. But what they published was a puff piece on EY program.

1) Just a reminder @WHO @FCTCofficial that the roof you live under is held up by pillars YOU are responsible to uphold.

If you ignore one it could bring the whole thing down.

Failing to acknowledge Article 1(d) and #harmreduction #tobaccoharmreduction is a failure of ideology.
2) That failure is not only apparent after the invention of #vape #vaping technologies but has been glaring at you and everyone that has been watching since 2006.

3) Your roof is falling down on your head.

You fail to ask the question, "Why do people use nicotine?"

Instead you dehumanize them. Demonize them. You "other" them.

Why are 70% of cigarettes smoked, smoked by the #neurodiverse?

Why do you attack #safernicotine options?

#Autigender. Having a gender that is so heavily influenced by autism that one’s gender and autism cannot be unlinked.

The discovery of this word has propelled me down an introspective rabbit hole. 🧵

#ProbablyNeurodivergent #neurodiverse #autism #gender
I’m 99% certain I’m autistic, minus 1% for no official Dx yet.

I’m used to feeling like humanity is something I observe, but don’t always share. So when others describe what I’ve long experienced but never had in common, it feels like a revelation.
Descriptions of autigender make perfect, relatable sense to me. Most of what I’ve read so far are feelings I’ve had my whole life. I’ll try to explain.

I would like to ask people to talk about “identities” instead of “labels” when talking about descriptions of yourself or others that are self-chosen and proudly-carried. I am thoroughly sick of saying people talking about “why label yourself”; “I don’t want to label my child” etc
when talking about important diagnoses such as #autism and #ADHD that are utterly essential to self-understanding and often become proud, self-chosen identities as a child grows up, and it’s even worse when people talk about #gender and #sexualities as “labels”.
Ultimately, “labels” have no function for the self; they exist purely for interactions with others. That doesn’t mean they can’t be useful and empowering, but to my mind it’s a huge misapprehension to describe #gender and #sexualities in this way and plays right into the idea

okay so here's a snippet of what you missed on #neurodiverse TikTok yesterday; there was two things happening at once and they intersected so it got confusing
both things basically involved autistic tiktok vs ADHD tiktok which probably got really confusing for the people who are diagnosed as both. One issue was around gatekeeping and lateral ableism, and the other a more serious issue around research ethics vs. grassroots understanding
I know ppl on both sides of the research ethics debate & it's being dealt w already so I don't want to comment more on what happened there; let's just say that there are a lot of exciting and scientific things that eager ADHD folx are learning that COULD deepen our understanding

Click the link below to learn about how speech codes disproportionately harm the #neurodiverse & students on the autism spectrum. #freespeech

Or keep reading for a message to student journalists! 0/7

I had the pleasure of sending a letter (arriving next week) to 602 campus news rooms.

If you know me, you’ve almost certainly heard me talk about my time as a college journalist. It “radicalized” me toward #FreeSpeech & the #FirstAmendment. 1/7

Whenever we (@TheEagleOnline) printed something controversial, someone would come into my office demanding I fire a reporter or columnist. Sometimes over something tiny, other times something understandably controversial. 2/7

In 8 weeks, #Startwith8Hollywood has become the largest #DiversityAndInclusion initiative in the history of Hollywood and I'm proud to be a part of it.

Here's why this matters...

@TheJTCList @BiatchPack @manondereeper @Cheryl_CLBP

1/6
Before 2020, #Diversity programs at the studios & networks offered less than 10 spots per year for underrepresented creatives & crew to be mentored by those already inside the system.

Access to the access was nearly impossible.🔐

#Startwith8Hollywood #TheJTCList

2/6
In 8 weeks, powered by just 2 volunteers, doors were opened for nearly 300 women of color. That's 300 talented, driven, experienced creators who had been shut out from their dreams.

This is holding Hollywood accountable. No more #LipService

A brief thread of my real #ADHD experience:

ADHD is...

Wanting to do the all the things but being able to do less and less the more there is to do.

Desperately trying and failing to learn new names while being able to recall loads of facts even you don't care about. 1/
ADHD is...

Doubting even your strengths.

Unloading anger and frustration on those closest to you because you held it together all day at work and something has to give. 2/
ADHD is...

Taking on more than you can handle because you want to be helpful.

Feeling strong emotions without knowing why. 3/

I've known I have #ADHD for 4 years. I've known I'm #dyslexic & Autistic for 2 months. This semester, I've spent enormous time/energy understanding what this means for me. I am relieved & unbelievably excited; I've found an incredible #ActuallyAutistic community through Twitter;
& for the FIRST time in my life (let that sink in) I'm seeing other people talk about experiences that mirror my own. I understand myself in a way that I have tried to find words for my entire life. (TY @SNeurotypicals @steve_asbell @autistictic @A_Silent_Child) #ActuallyAutistic
I'm also navigating grief. I now see the ways I'm called to & do invalidate, erase, & hurt myself in the "necessary" betrayal of my needs to exist in a neurotypical, "appropriate" way. Camouflaging causes negative health outcomes & creates #healthdisparities #NMHM2020 #Autistic

Perfectionism and shame are unhealthy coping mechanisms many #adhd folks use to motivate themselves. This article doesn't really give a very concrete solution though. It basically says "stop doing that". Well, we do it because it's what works to hide it. additudemag.com/self-criticism…
Oh God, I totally do all of these.
It talks about stopping this and it's pretty clear why it's emotionally unhealthy and not sustainable, but ok... How am I supposed to "get by" if I'm not utilizing these harmful tricks?

I read another article today about how Self Compassion/Forgiveness is more productive than shame and guilt but it was not taking into account if this person has ADHD. I'm trying to change because I need to. However, I'm worried what kind of limitations this creates.
