Former @Greenpeace director, now Secretary-General of @amnesty: "The fossil industry is more destructive than slavery ever was"

Environmentalism, and now it seems, human rights NGOs are degenerate.

@Greenpeace @amnesty How utterly debased does one need to be to be able to put the extraction and use of fossil fuels beneath the trade and use of humans as slaves?
@Greenpeace @amnesty So debased, I would argue, that @kuminaidoo almost seems to be saying "well, what's so bad about slavery?"

No, using fossil fuels is not destructive. It's not destructive of persons, of peoples, of the environment, in fact.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo Abundant and cheap energy is the opposite of destructive. It is constructive.

It has allowed peoples to thrive and for people to prosper. It has allowed for steady development of all kinds, including the social and political development of billions.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo What kind of ideology, then, is necessary for Naidoo's moral calculus?

It is exactly the opposite of what it claims to be. It is *deeply* anti-human. I do not think it is dramatic to say that it resonates with the logic of the Soviet Union in the 20s-50s.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo The self-appointed global guardians of our rights and our political and civil freedoms, have no better developed an understanding of the world than a teenager.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo And a pretty stupid teenager at that.

"A death penalty for the entire world population" -- such bullshit is a moral blank cheque, isn't it, which can be used to demand anything and everything.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo Naidoo is 54.

He would lived through many typhoons afflicting the region. His ignorance is no defence of his ridiculous claims.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo Here are the named typhoons of the SW Indian Ocean in Naidoo's lifetime from Wikipedia.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo In what way does this chart depict something 'more destructive than slavery', if Mozambique is key to his claim that it is?
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo And this. Does this look like destruction?
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo Naidoo claims to recognise that it is poor people who suffer from climate change.

Yet then, look what he says about "affluenza".

"You don't need money", he says.

He is unaware of the contradiction. No, worse, he is aware, but is indifferent to it.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo Notice what he doesn't say.

He doesn't say, "people in Mozambique should aspire to have what people in the west have", and that this wealth would ensure that typhoons do not take such a heavy toll.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo That is to say that he believes it is better for people to have as little as the unfortunates who were in the path of typhoons in Mozambique.

It is a total inversion of morality. It is ideology, pure and simple. And total indifferent to reality.
@Greenpeace @amnesty @kuminaidoo It is functionally equivalent to asking, "what's so bad about slavery", as above.
