Less than 2 weeks ago, the top cop—and top #Chad—in Riverside County, @SheriffBianco, was telling the Board of Supervisors that "it's not your job to tell me what to do" when it comes to ensuring that the @RSO is held accountable to the public for violence committed by deputies.
In May, Bianco passed himself off simultaneously as an expert on #pandemics and a constitutional scholar when instructing the Board of Supervisors to ignore guidelines from the Riverside County #publichealth officer and California Governor @GavinNewsom.
#LawEnforcement isn't Chad Bianco's only job: he doubles as the county coroner, which it turns out is problematic. Two Fridays ago, he again told the Board of Supervisors that he rejected oversight efforts— even though he knew how a man had been killed in @RSO custody in 2017.

[One year later, #Policebrutality intensifies]

1. A year ago, millions of #HKers flocked to streets to oppose #AntiExtradition bill & #PoliceViolence. It was the time when demonstrations, protests, strikes, petitions, forming human chains & singing #GlorytoHongKong were permitted Image
2. One year later, #Hongkongers and the world bear witness to #Beijing's growing direct control on the city’s vanishing liberty. Ordinary citizens are stabbed by pro-#Beijing mobs, smashed to the ground and arrested by #hkpolice just because they sing in public. ImageImageImage
3. This is the time when teachers are fired for refusing to censor students, and even a satirical show was halted for mentioning #policebrutality. Image

CW: Abuse, #PoliceViolence

THE NICEST FREAKIN’ FAMILY just moved in across the street 3 weeks ago. Single mom, four kids, 7 mths pregnant as a surrogate for her best friend, I’ll be calling her Mama cause she’s the cutest preggo lady I have ever seen, 5’1” and like 110 lbs.
Our neighborhood is...kinda rough. Poor people, lots of drugs, but more or less everyone leaves everyone else alone and gets along fine. This family moves in, I immediately go over to say hey, and turns out Mama and I get along GREAT. NICE people. Fab kids.

1- In the aftermath of what is currently going on in #France (protests against police violence v. people blaming French PoC of "racializing" the issue like in the UK or US). A quick non-exhaustive thread on #France and the notion of #universalism and France's double standards.⬇️
2- Usual warning: it is a (already too long) Twitter thread. I’m going straight to the point, there is so much more to say, and there are a bunch of things I did not cover.
3- Art 1 of the Constitution of 1958: “France shall be an indivisible, laïque, democratic & social Republic. It shall ensure the equality of all citizens before the law, without distinction of origin, race or religion”.

Over the next few days we will highlight direct quotes about police violence from participants in our studies.

Since this material can be traumatic, we will use the hashtag #POCbeingPoliced throughout this series so you can mute it any time.
"We did this protest... [the police] detained my friend who was the only black man with us.... without giving any reason. They throw him on the ground, start handcuffing him. We’re all, like, 'We’re these 15 people... Why are you detaining him?'" #POCbeingPoliced #BLUEFALL

So, many people don't have a choice about what to do now as their communities are under siege, but many of us do. 1/
With #COVID19, #PoliceViolence & attacks on #protests by a variety of law enforcement actors, hellfire is raining down on many communities in the US, which have been suffering long before 2020. 2/
Yes, this is white supremacy in the United States, but it functions not only on communities of color, but on white people as well. 3/

(hella long) THREAD on #bailreform & #PoliceViolence
Here’s the deal: last year NY passed bail reform legislation that mandated pretrial freedom for 90% of folks going through the system. It was a huge win for black people, poor people & the movement to end pretrial jailing.
It also SIGNIFICANTLY checked the power of law enforcement to use pretrial jailing as a tool to terrorize black NYers. The reforms meant that tens of thousands of people now couldn’t be jailed and held hostage just based on an arrest.
Pretrial jailing is a direct extension of police power. The #ExoneratedFive, #KaliefBrowder, #LayleenPolanco are all examples of black people who suffered horrible violence and tremendous consequences from being locked up pretrial as a result of racist cops & racist arrests.

@JoeBiden Hey #JoeBiden, why don't you tell the #mayors and #governors of the #DemocraticParty to enforce #LawAndOrder

#Cuomo--governor of #NY State--#DeBlasio--mayor of #NYC--and others should be ashamed of themselves for allowing rampant #chaos to do material harm to their constituents
@JoeBiden This lackadaisical attitude combined with the now woefully obvious #lies spouted by almost every outlet of the #MainstreamMedia has pushed to become a FIRM supporter of the #TrumpAdministration.

I invite #Democrats and #Liberals to do their due diligence, #Trump acts on a plan
@JoeBiden Furthermore, the glaring weaknesses of the ineffective "#representatives" of the #DemocraticParty have shown us that most of these LINOs have only three approaches to any given problem:
1. Blame #Trump
2. Do Nothing
3. Use #Race to pretend they care about the #oppressed

THREAD: #PoliceViolence in response to #GeorgeFloydprotest reminds me of use-of-force probs during the Northern Ireland Troubles, where indiscriminate use of “non-lethal” wpns like baton rounds fueled violence. I wrote on this a while back. 1/…
Baton rounds originated in the British Empire; wooden rounds were prepared for use in Hong Kong in the 1960s. With the #NorthernIreland Troubles, officials looked for a “non-lethal” weapon with more deterrent effect (i.e. more dangerous) than tear gas. 2/
But they thought wooden rounds were too dangerous for use against fellow white people, so they developed rubber rounds designed for “precision” use against riot leaders/instigators. Problem was, rubber billets weren’t accurate enough for this. 3/

A running list of things cops have done on camera this week during the #protests:

- Mace a child
- Arrest clearly identified press
- Shoot marker bullets at the press
- yell “shut up bitch!” and shoot a woman(who was just filming) with rubber bullets
- intentionally hit a protester with their car door as they drive by

- indiscriminately spray pepper spray at protesters as they drive by

- shove a woman from behind, causing her to fall and hit her head on the curb

- Drive police cruisers into crowds

40 million unemployed Americans. Months of isolation after a botched pandemic response. A hated president who actively antagonizes hurt and angry people who just watched another black man murdered by police. America is a powder keg with an arsonist in the White House.
Peace has to be a pathway to progress. If peaceful, non-violent protest continues to lead to nowhere, I fear we will see more violence.

Cities need to show frustrated Americans that police will be held accountable when they murder. People are sick and tired of this shit.
If you want peace, work for justice.

“Corona Court Case in Rivers State
April 1, 2020

The Governor said Dusk to Dawn. Hence the people moved freely from 6a.m to 6p.m. Shockingly, the Governor's agents were arresting people who
moved out during the day. This confusion was cleared when the Commissioner for information insisted that it was a 24hr curfew. The damage had already been done, over a hundred and twenty six persons were already arrested.

Today I received a call to come represent one of them in court. And boy...The mammoth crowd in court... The entrance to the court cell was overflowing with body-gumming people... I tried to take shots but the police siezed my phone and later released it.
