Only one party has a specific plan for ensuring EVERY American will have access to quality healthcare as a human right..the other fights to TAKE IT AWAY. 1/10 Image
Overturning the #AffordableCareAct remains a central plank of the Republican Party (invisible) platform. The difference in values between the two parties on this life-or-death issue could not be more stark. 2/11 #DemPartyPlatform #healthcare Image
The pandemic has made this difference in values painfully, brutally clear. Pres Trump has repeatedly downplayed the threat of the coronavirus, bullied governors for enacting life-saving public health measures, &left our frontline health care heroes w/o the equipment they need 3/11 Image

The Number of People WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE Has Gone Up Under Trump

The number of people without insurance in the #US rose from 28.6 million, or 8.9% of the population, in 2018 to 29.6 million, 9.2% of people, in 2019

The uninsured rate among the non-elderly population STARTED FALLING in 2010 (#Obama) after the #ACA was enacted, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation, but it started to tick back up in 2016 (#Trump)...

#AffordableCareAct = emphasis on AFFORDABLE

#TrumpNoCare = NADA

The increased uninsurance rates correlate with President #Trump’s promotion of short-term “junk insurance” plans and the repeal of the individual mandate, which required people to pay a penalty if they weren’t insured.

#HealthCare under #Trump is #TrumpNoCare

Good evening, #Resistance! Throughout this week, I’ve tried to offer something political to talk about that isn’t filled with fear-mongering, flat-out lies & Russian propaganda. I’ve tried to talk strategically about every way we can increase turnout & maximize the
margin by which @JoeBiden will defeat Donald Trump. But if we need anymore reminding of just what kind of moment this election, I want you to help remind someone you know just what it is they’re thinking of voting for. Right now, there are many people throughout the #Resistance

Last week @realDonaldTrump boasted, as he has repeatedly since 2017, that “we got rid of the individual mandate” so that “you don’t have [to] buy health insurance." In the pending #AffordableCareAct case, however, Texas & Trump's DOJ (presumably) will argue that in 2017 ... /1
... Trump & the GOP Congress *imposed* a legal mandate to maintain ACA-compliant insurance. Indeed, their argument that the Court should declare the whole ACA invalid *depends upon* the idea that Trump imposed a mandate, in flat disregard of the SCOTUS's ruling in NFIB. /2
In this instance, Trump is right: In 2017 he and Congress did the opposite of imposing a mandate to buy ACA-compliant insurance. (Will his own SG actually insist otherwise?) Indeed, the SCOTUS has rarely if ever confronted an easier question of statutory interpretation. /3

THREAD: Over the past 10 years, the #AffordableCareAct has helped millions of working families, seniors and people with disabilities. Yet the Trump Admin is trying to sabotage the #ACA – in the middle of a pandemic. Here’s what’s at stake if Republicans refuse to #DropTheLawsuit:
More than 20 million Americans gained health care coverage under the ACA, both private insurance and through Medicaid expansion. This cut the uninsured rate nearly in half. The last thing we should be doing amid a public health crisis is ripping away health care coverage. /2
The ACA implemented protections for over 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions – one of the groups most likely to develop severe complications from #COVID19. Health insurers could otherwise discriminate against or refuse coverage for these Americans. /3

10 years ago, President @BarackObama signed the #AffordableCareAct into law.

In its first 2 years, the uninsured rate among nonelderly veterans dropped by 40 percent.

As #COVID19 continues to spread, we need to make sure all veterans can access the healthcare they need.
For more info on how #COVID19 impacts veterans and what the Committee is doing to make sure @DeptVetAffairs is ready to care for those with COVID-19, visit our resource page.

This page will be continually updated as more info becomes available.
In the meantime, here's how you can help prevent the spread of #COVID19 (per @CDCgov):

🧼Wash your hands for 20 seconds
🏡Practice #SocialDistancing
😷Avoid close contact with people who are sick
🖐️Avoid touching your eyes, nose, & mouth
🧻Cover your cough or sneeze w/ a tissue

Ten years ago today, President Obama signed the #AffordableCareAct into law.

Let’s take a moment to think about how the comprehensive, quality health coverage provided by the #ACA is helping us combat the coronavirus.
Without the #ACA, health insurers could discriminate against or even refuse coverage to nearly 133 million Americans with pre-existing conditions - one of the groups most likely to develop severe symptoms of the coronavirus.
Without the #ACA, 20 million people who gained quality, comprehensive health insurance would be uninsured. If they contracted the coronavirus and required treatment, multiple doctor’s visits, or even hospitalization, they may be stuck with staggering out of pocket costs.

2 years of dealing with America's broken #insurance system why we need #MedicareForAll A thread.
Here is what I know and my personal thoughts and experiences. Certainly not telling anyone what to think, how to feel or who to #vote for.
But without #affordablecareact (calling it #Obamacare was a Republican ploy to make poor white voters hate it by connecting it to a Black man. Look at polls-hatred for plan when presented as Obamacare and support when presented as #ACA even among white GOP)
Anyway...without the #ACA , Wife, Son & I can all be denied health care due to #preexistingconditions. Think about that-insurance companies had the right to deny the most needing among us, the sickest.
So what happens to those denied?

Outrage over @POTUS Trump's violation of norms, principles, and laws has tended to mask actions his Administration is taking that hurts a large swath of his base. Let's stop reacting to all @realDonaldTrump's #bull$hit and start tweeting about issues:
#Healthcare: Trump has tried since election to trash #AffordableCareAct (b/c it's called "Obamacare"), joining Republican states in suing to overturn ACA, doing away with protection for #Pre_existingConditions. Trump budget cuts Medicaid and ACA subsidies by a trillion dollars.
Trump also wants to cut #SNAP once again calling for reductions in the number of adults who can qualify for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The 2021 budget proposes cutting SNAP funding by about $15 billion from last year.…

Couldn't agree more w/ @SpeakerPelosi that the House managers have been "magnificent custodians of the Constitution" against Trump's lawlessness.

Thank you, @RepAdamSchiff @RepJerryNadler @RepZoeLofgren @RepJeffries @RepValDemings @RepJasonCrow @RepSylviaGarcia!

@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff @RepJerryNadler @RepZoeLofgren @RepJeffries @RepValDemings @RepJasonCrow @RepSylviaGarcia As they're suing to kill the #AffordableCareAct that protects 130M w/ preexisting conditions & covers 20M, Republicans are now attacking #Medicaid – a vital program that covers 1 in 5 in America.

Because their efforts to dismantle our Constitution weren't enough for the week!?!
@SpeakerPelosi @RepAdamSchiff @RepJerryNadler @RepZoeLofgren @RepJeffries @RepValDemings @RepJasonCrow @RepSylviaGarcia Surprise! Surprise! Trying to snatch health care from people is unpopular, 56-35!

Didn't we learn that in 2018 when Dems took the House on the strength of #MadamSpeaker's #ForThePeople agenda which centered on the promise to #ProtectOurCare?

We'll win the 2020 rematch too!🇺🇸🌊

The stories I hear make it clear what’s at stake in Republicans’ push to repeal the #AffordableCareAct and make deep cuts to #Medicare & #Medicaid. This is Bridget’s story:…
Passage of the Affordable Care Act was a watershed moment for people like Bridget. Democrats stand ready to build on this progress and make sure Trump and Republicans don’t reverse it.

I am one of 17M Americans with #cancer right now.
Some of us will survive, some will not.
Our survival should not be predicated on our health insurance.
#M4A is an imperative step toward universal coverage and keeping us all living as long as possible.
Every candidate must support #UniversalHealthCoverage. Access to care is the single most important issue for all Americans regardless of party. EVERYONE has a family member who's sick: parent, spouse, child. No one should face bankruptcy to care for a loved one.
My father's final illness bankrupted me. I got sick soon after. This is a common story. But unlike our peers in Canada, UK, France or Germany, we have no recourse but to accrue massive hospital bills and risk losing everything to care for a sick loved me.
#M4A is a promise.

May is #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. So let's talk about protecting Mental Health and the #AffordableCareAct. (and send a letter to your legislators in the link here) >>> Thread:…
As disability advocates, it is important to protect access to mental health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as ObamaCare. Threats to repeal all or part of the ACA are real and challenges continue to be filed in courts along with
the introduction of new legislation.

We can't forget that before the Affordable Care Act was law, access to mental health care coverage in insurance was lacking. Mental health was considered a pre-existing condition.

We all know #ThisIsNotNormal. 💯
Some folks are saying it may never be normal again. 🙄

But I'm gonna let you all in on a secret.
Are you ready?

Our "normal" was hot garbage.
No, really.
Hot. Frelling. Garbage.

Let's review, shall we?

<thread> It's going to be too easy for things to start feeling normal—especially if you are someone who is not directly impacted by his actions. So keep reminding yourself: this is not normal. Write it on a Post-It Note & stick it on your refrigerator, hire a skywriter once a month, tattoo it on your ass. Because a klan-backed misogynist internet troll is going to be delivering the sotu. And that's fucked up. - John Oliver
"Normal" gave us a Republican party that flatly refused to work with President Obama. On anything. At all. Ever.

Think I'm exaggerating?
Two words: #MerrickGarland.

McConnell sat on a vacancy in the highest court of the land for a year.

And it was so "normal" we did nothing. Gorsuch arrives at a SCOTUS seat, in which President Obama's nominee is bound & gagged, saying,
"Normal" gave us 60+ votes to repeal the #AffordableCareAct. Heck, it gave us the ACA passing with zero GOP votes.

That's not hyperbole, folks.
The 1st House vote, ONE Republican.
The Senate vote, ZERO Republicans.
The final House vote, ZERO Republicans.… Roadrunner as Obamacare (Affordabilis Care Actus) outmaneuvers a pack of Coyotes as Republicans (Grandium Old Party).

Just a few weeks ago, a Texas judge handed down one of the most absurd rulings of the 21st century, dealing a massive blow to the #AffordableCareAct, endangering health care rights and shredding the social safety net. Image
.@senatemajldr and his Republican colleagues claim to support coverage for pre-existing conditions. Today, we’re offering a Senate resolution to give Republicans a chance to prove it. Mitch McConnell should put it to a vote.
Here's what's at stake if the Republicans succeed in their campaign of sabotage against the #AffordableCareAct: millions of seniors will pay more for prescription drugs, coverage for pre-existing conditions will be slashed & low-cost preventative care will be a thing of the past.

A federal judge ruled the #AffordableCareAct--also known as #ACA & #Obamacare--unconstitutional because #GOPTaxBill removed the mandate.
I've written about ACA since it was devised in 2009 & signed in 2010. Here is a thread📌on what the law does & how it impacts you:
Many Americans are confused about what the #ACA is--and this includes Trump and his #HHS Sect #AlexAzar. A vast array of complex #healthcare statutes are covered under the #AffordableCareAct (also known as #ACA & #Obamacare). So here's a primer to inform you on all points.
The #AffordableCareAct is the comprehensive health care reform law enacted in March 2010 (sometimes known as #ACA or #Obamacare). The #ACA is NOT insurance. It is a LAW that stipulates, in part, what insurance companies provide in their #healthcare plans.

While you're focused on a holiday surprise from #Mueller, the president of the United States and his lame duck Speaker have officially been working toward eviscerating the #ACA before #NancyPelosi steps in to save everyone's #healthcare.

Please call your reps & tell them NO.
I'm seriously ill--17M of us have #cancer; 131M have other chronic illnesses. This concerns me & you & people you love.
Like everything else, it's underhanded and under-the-radar.

New insurance guidelines would undermine rules of the #AffordableCareAct…
"The Trump administration is urging states to tear down pillars of #AffordableCareAct, demolishing a basic rule that federal insurance subsidies can be used only by people buying health plans in marketplaces created under the law."

They want to take the #healthcare you need.
