THREAD on once most respected profession COURTESAN, GANIKA, ended up in undignified NAUTCH GIRL, PROSTITUTES

The only entertainment in NON-TV age became NOT only OBSOLETE but an ABUSE in modern age.

A look back in TIME

@mini_razdan10 @Aabhas24 @NAN_DINI_ @TIinExile
Courtesans (Apsara & Gandharva) profession has been respectful since antiquity.
They were skillful in Dancing and helped India in defeating luring enemies
APSARA is 1st mention of courtesan from Ramayan 2:45:32
They emerged from water (Img indicative)
Other Mention can be found in Mahabharata where Arjuna went upto heaven. There he met Urvashi. He treated her as her superior's wife and compared her to his mother Kunti

1. Next 21 tweets on #Sikh tradition's relationship with different languages & scripts in Indic core & extended MidEast/Mongol/Tibet/E.Asian family.

What were the cultural undercurrents of the first Sikh movement towards Indicization?

What derailed this?

What about the future?
2. #Sikh Guru Angad ji pioneered the re-introduction of Indic script in Punjab. Rolled back imposition of modified-Arabic script.

#Gurmukhi is derived from Sharada script of #Kashmiri Hindus. Related to far flung Tocharian script. Is only surviving member of that script-family.
3. #Sindhis, Hindus from #NWFP & Hinglaaj (present-day #Balochistan), + today's #Kashmiri Hindus' Indic scripts have lost currency. Most now use modified-Arabic script.

These groups should consider adopting #Gurmukhi as script for their languages as they reclaim their identity.

Scholars have speculated that Kalidas may have lived near the Himalayas, in the vicinity of Ujjain, and in Kalinga. #महाकविकालिदासः #Kalidas_Icon_of_India
The hypothesis of his place is based on detailed description of the Himalayas in his Kumārasambhava, the display of his love for Ujjain in Meghadūta, and his highly eulogistic descriptions of Kalingan emperor Hemāngada in Raghuvaṃśa. #महाकविकालिदासः #Kalidas_Icon_of_India

They couldn’t deny that the Veds were the ancient most texts!
They couldn’t accept that German, Greek, Latin languages had their origin in Sanskrit!
To give expression to their political aspirations, they fabricated ‘Aryan invasion theory’! #SaraswatiUntold
In 1848, German scholar, Friedrich Max Muller settled in Oxford, introduced in 1853, term Aryan applied to Indian languages & Race! Germany & England used Aryan invasion theory to propagate that Rigvedic people were descendants of Europeans,so our culture, language came from them!
Macaulay understood- knowledge of Brahmins would be a hinderance in converting Hindus, hired impoverished Max Muller to translate & interpret Veds in a way that🇮🇳elite would choose Bible over Veds, used #Hindu intellectual strength against their own self!

Starting a thread on #कामसूत्रम् (1/n)

I will dismantle vile propaganda to denounce this wonderful text as a sex manual

Before I start, read this article by me to understand कामसूत्र as a शास्त्र…

Hindi version -…
Lack of basic information leads to false propaganda (see the tweet in the image)

कामसूत्र is not written by Richard Burton. Authorship is with वात्स्यायन (~300 BCE) - a well known fact

Person who doesn't know such basic info has made a video to denounce this text !!
In fact, title of Burton's translation work in 1883 was - Kamasutra of Vatsyayana

Burton himself has acknowledged that this is not his work but is of वात्स्यायन and Burton has just translated it

So, saying "Burton written Kamasutra" is an agenda driven white lie.

Thread. What is the link between #red & worms? Why is there an insect whose Latin name is '#worm little worm'? Let's start with a Sanskrit term: "krimija", "worm-made". (I know no Sanskrit, so please feel free to offer better translations). This was borrowed into Persian as قرمز.
2... qermez (contemporary Tehran pronunciation: ghermez), meaning 'red'. Above, popular Iranian children's TV character kolah ghermezi, 'red hat'. This appears to have happened in early Islamic times; in Middle Persian 'red' is 'sukhr' (New Persian sorkh). What about the worms?
3. Well, before the advent of synthetic #chemistry in the 2nd half of the 19th century, #dyes & pigments were mostly obtained from plant roots, or in certain cases, animals. The most famous is the 'imperial purple' obtained from the glands of Mediterranean sea snails.

#IndoAryan faunal etymology!

#Khowar òhc /ôht͡s/ ('bear'), loan from a #Nuristani language like #Waigali.

Although cognate to #Sanskrit ŕ̥kṣaḣ, the Khowar form is probably not descended from it, i.e., not native to Khowar. Sanskrit kṣ regularly corresponds to c̣ʰ /ʈ͡ʂʰ/ ...
... in Khowar & other northern Indo-Aryan languages, and not to c /t͡s/.

Instead c /t͡s/ is seen in the neighboring Nuristani languages, cf.
- #Waigali ōc
- #Kam ic
- #Kati ic

The presence of c /t͡s/ in this (class of) word(s) is significant because it marks the uniqueness ...
... of Nuristani languages within Indo-Iranian (or Aryan for those who believe that Nuristani "split off" first from the Aryan linguistic mix while Indo-Iranian was still unified, thus distinguishing the bigger "Aryan" from the subgroup "Indo-Iranian").

In the Nuristani ...

Should British be SUED for BAD maths?

It's said only 'smart people' understand maths.

Colonial maths is built on Greek maths from 300 BCE missing negatives, one and zero as numbers!

For example the British multiplication DEFINITION is an INCORRECT translation of a 300 BCE Greek definition. (@jcrabtree research @

Brahmagupta's 7th Century LAWS of negatives, positives and ZERO the British BURIED were a MILLENNIUM MORE ADVANCED! Image

The British used Greek, Latin and Arabic manuscripts to assemble its elementary maths.

Yet, ONLY #SANSKRIT described the laws of negatives, positives and zero!

The Greek, Latin and Arabic maths texts NEVER agreed with our laws of physics. India's Sanskrit maths DID! Image

Only an insecure citizen will vilify a period of history, as rich and complex as #Mughal rule.

This demonstrates a vacuum of confidence and an inherent inadequacy in their own ability, to accept or understand the dynamics that created modern #India.

A #thread on the #Mughals:
1. The #Mughals, as they are erroneously called, were descended from Temur (aka Tamberlane, Tamerlane), in a direct patrilineal line and from Chengiz Khan in a direct matrilineal line.

They identified themselves with their Timurid heritage.
2. Babur, like all Mughals felt a legitimate claim on Hindustan after its conquest in 1398-99, by Temür, which effectively ended the already tottering Tughlaq Sultanate, following the fall of Delhi.
Not until 1451 and the rise of the Lodis (under Bahlul Khan), did Delhi recover.

Sorry, we had technical issues with Samskrita Bharati Live Show today.

But here are some constructive ideas to take #Sanskrit's mission forward:

1. Add to Vyavahara Sahasri to create a much larger database (x n) that can be helpful in developing a Automatic Translator.

from English and Indian languages into/from Sarala Sanskrit.

2. Take 100 popular books from world literature at school level and translate abridged versions into Sarala Sanskrit. (As points of comparison, there are books in Simplified Chinese and even Simplified English.)

3. Have Indian universities introduce one or two courses on History of Indian science. This should not be a matter of controversy.

4. Consciousnesss is now center-stage in science & Sanskrit is the greatest resource for atma-vidya, it will be more important than ever.

The relation between Samskrta #Sanskrt and various Prakrtas #Prakrit is a subject that has been debated widely. Since #Kannada in its long history has been influenced by Samskrta and Prakrita(s), I thought of this note.
References in Sanskrit state " प्रकृतिः संस्कृतम्, तत्र भवेत् पाकृतं" - implying it is Samskrta that was the originator, or natural language, and those varieties (of it) that arose from it were called Prakritas.

1/7 Hidden Maths Easter Egg!

For most of the past 2300 years 'maths' = Euclid's of Alexandria. Alexandria was named after Alexander the Great & Greek was spoken throughout the Roman Empire at the time of Jesus. So, Ancient Greek & Latin were the churches' language of 'science'.
2/7 Early Christian bibles were written in Greek. Catholic Church is Roman. Roman Numerals promoted.

No room for #Sanskrit in science! Bharat loved #ZERO and #INFINITY. SACRILEGE! Only (western) God is infinite and zero (the void) is the realm of the devil. HINT Bharat = Devil.
3/7 #ZERO must not be a 'void/shunya'. We will use it ONLY as a placeholder. Think! Bharat's 'opposite numbers' are called NEGATIVE numbers = bad! #Brahmagupta wrote rules of positive, NEGATIVE and the VOID. Horror!

How to understand "clock timing" in #Sanskrit ? A short thread 👇

Let us start with few basic words -

• O'clock = वादनम्

• Numbers = एक, द्वि, त्रि, चतुर् , पञ्च, षट् , सप्त, अष्ट, नव, दश, एकादश, द्वादश (1 to 12)

• 1 o'clock = एक-वादनम् ।
• 2 o'clock = द्वि-वादनम् ।
• 12 o'clock = द्वादश-वादनम् ।

Simple. Isn't it ?
how to understand 2.15, 3.30, 4.45 and so on ? Again, two basic words -

• पाद = 15 minutes
(सपाद = +15 min. & पादोन = -15 mts)
• सार्ध = 30 minutes

2:15 = सपाद-द्वि-वादनम्
3:30 = सार्ध-त्रि-वादनम्
4:45 = पादोन-पञ्च-वादनम्
... Go on like this.

Now, starting 2nd thread in the series of "#Sanskrit and #SilkRoute".

• Topic - Discovery of Sanskrit on Silk Route.

Refer the map of #SilkRoute again. Do you see Takla Makan desert, North to Tibet ?

City of Kashgar at this desert separates the route in two parts - North & South.

See that Kucha town in the North route. Next tweets are related to Kucha. So, remember it.
It was 1890 CE. India was under the British rule.

Hamilton Bower is a British army officer. He is sent to Kucha (China) on a secret mission in search of a murderer.

He goes to Kucha and takes help of a local person to guide him. Local guide takes him to an old place.

Xinjiang region of #China (Image 1) was the most important region on #SilkRoute for travelers carrying #Sanskrit texts from #India.

Crescent Moon Lake (Image 2 & 3) site was the shelter for these travelers in this arid region.

Voyage of Sanskrit in China was not easy ! 🙂 ImageImageImage
The #SilkRoute in #China got bifurcated at Kashgar creating North and South routes ultimately meeting at Dunhuang (See the map below)

This route gave birth to "Central Asia", a logical unit on the physical map of Asia 🙂

On this route - Oasis, Kingdoms, Cities got established. Image
These kingdoms, cities and other places became the halting places for the travelers.

They helped transmitting #Sanskrit texts, thoughts, ideas, literature, art and culture from #India to not only Central Asia and #China but also to East Asia.
